Hi all!

I thought I should do an opening thread and introduce myself to this great crew of people.

I was in need of something "slightly" more practical than my previous daily driver (DD), my beloved 2005 MazdaSpeed Miata. When you had to be very selective of what you could bring home from Costco/grocery store it started to prove that maybe this shouldn’t be DD. It was an awesome car that I had a lot of fun doing some tasteful mods/maintenance but it was time to move on.

And that brings me to my vehicle search. I had looked at some other cars and trucks, but then started to look at Toyota/Lexus SUVs. I thought I had my mind made up and found an extremely nice 2007 GX470. While very nice, something about it just didn’t seem right. For something that seemed that big, it wasn’t near as big as expected on the inside. So that brought me to looking at the Land Cruiser/LX470. I had found an 2006 LX470 with 180k at a local dealer and had looked it over well and was ready to make an offer on it one day after work. So that morning, I got to work early and looked up some other LX470’s on Craigslist/AutoTrader to use as a negotiating tool. Well, that’s when my current vehicle showed up, only just being listed a day earlier. It had 271k miles but was a one-owner with meticulous records. And the price of less than half of the 2006 definitely had an effect on the decision making process. I drove to Birmingham that day and picked up my LX.

So I am now visiting IH8MUD daily, looking for new things and looking forward to being a part of this community. Right now the mods will be minimal but when maintenance items are required then it's time for an upgrade .

Nice MSM! I daily drive my Miata to offset the 11 mpg my LX gets!

That's quite a step up in size, you could literally fit the Miata inside the LX it seems like. Welcome to the club, plenty of thread about baselining the vehicle and other maintenance.

Paint looks fantastic for an 01? I know those wheels were pre 03

Thanks everyone for the comments. I wasn't sure if I was going to get the "hair dresser" treatment from driving a Miata...

I loved my MSM. It was #694 of 1428 in 2005. And one of 413 in Black Mica. I have noticed quite a change in my mileage (from 26 to 15) but it's not terrible. Before I bought I did some calculations and it's about +$1000/yr to DD the LX.

Yes. It was definitely a change in driving dynamics and position.

I'm working through some general maintenance items but luckily a lot were done prior to purchase such as timing belt, water pump, radiator, alternator and new Michelin tires all within the last 10,000 miles.

The paint is pretty amazing for a 16 year old car with 272k miles. The wheels need a little touch up though.

It looks like my 2001 LX. The LX & LC are not easy to find in Alabama and they seem to cost a little more than other parts of the country too.

I have driven VW Jetta diesel manual as my work car since 2006. It has been highly dependable. I love the Jetta almost as much as the LX!

While I love my LX, there are days I would trade for a Miata. I had a '99 and it was a fantastic car "sigh". Welcome aboard!

The best option would be to have both (like a few other people on here)! I will always want another small, sporty car in my stable but it'll have to wait a few years.

Good looking LX! It looks very similar... And yes, it took a little bit of looking around to find the one I wanted but I love it. Mine has been in the south (GA and AL) it's whole life.

Welcome, Your going to say why did I wait so long...

I knew reading this topic would be bad news. Now I am running down memory lane... My '97 NA was stock, Montego Blue and a blast to drive. The Miata is one car I still regret selling, and it has been 8 years!

Just like the Miata, the 100 series has a faithful, albeit small, helpful following made up of some of the best people I've ever met in an automotive community. Welcome to the madness :)

See Sig.

I know it's easier said than done...but it is nice to have both tools, equally capable in their element.

Get back into a cheap NA as a secondary drive pod!

Good looking rig! I'm pretty sure I've seen that rig before. Only a few of us "goldies" in BHM. You're going to love it.

I went from a turboed NA to an FJ60 way back when I made my first cruiser purchase. I still miss that car! In fact, thinking about selling/trading the FJ60 for something like a miata now that I have an LX.

I'm hoping I won't regret selling this one too much. I only had it two years so I didn't get too attached but it was a fun two years.

One of the great things about the Miata was the forum community and it looks like the LC/LX community is more of the same. Great people just having fun with their vehicles.
