I'm David....From Arkansas (insert shoeless joke here)....and just picked up a 91 FJ80. I'm pretty excited about it....I've been on and off looking for one for a while. It's stock height (I think) and has 31's and a brush guard. I've been reading pretty steady since Sunday, and have ordered a full knuckle rebuild kit, brake rotors, pads, and a high pressure PS line......Soon to order some more neglected stuff.

Welcome. Take your time and enjoy. Money will disappear quick if you're not careful. Read the FAQ and get well acquainted w the search function. This forum is loaded w very useful info from very knowledgable folks.
Cheers

I'm just going to make it leak free at first, and catch up on some maintenance. My BBC jet boat sucks up enough money!

Welcome. You are off to a good start to the addiction.

The joke is on you!

Leak Free!? Anybody have an actual leak-free rig?
Oh,I get it, the leaks are free of charge...

Don't sweat it, its natural corrosion protection. Welcome to the addiction!
I have a '92 and love it. Just be prepared to spend $1k at a time for upgrades.
Take care of the PM and baseline it.

There is a great wealth of knowledge here, just be careful to keep your head clear so you don't feel overwhelmed with the ever-expanding scope of owning an 80.
:steer:

Welcome. I've had an '91 for almost a year now and I've learned a ton about them here on MUD. There are much more qualified folks on here, but feel free to drop me a line if you need any help. Btw, where are you on Ar? I used to live in a Fort Smith and Little Rock, beautiful area. Outdoorsman' paradise.

I have 1 out of 3 that is a leak free and it takes a lot of work to keep it that way if you actually use the truck.

Welcome and congratulations, you bought one of the best. Keep in mind that once you begin to mess with it, reliability goes out the window.

My reliability did not go out the window. It is as reliable as it ever was....and I have had it since 97. What did go out the window was my wallet. Seems that once you start "improving" your 80, you never stop.

Welcome aboard! Picked up my '92 last April and love it. Now that you start digging in with some PM, do NOT unscrew the electrical connector to your air flow meter (attached directly to the air box). Two innocent little screws get you started down the WTF path in a hurry.....my avatar is the result of when I did exactly that.

Other than that, enjoy! Love mine and even after spending a little $$ here and there, it's still a helluva lot cheaper than getting an older M3 or 911, paying for track days and DE's, etc. Tossing the kids in the truck to go for a jaunt through the hills is much more satisfying.....

Welcome!

Word of advice - you can baby your land cruiser and treat it like a princess without fixing *every* little issue on it. Trying to replace every worn gasket, seal, and bearing will cost a ridiculous fortune. Many of the parts are capable of weeping/leaking and remaining perfectly functional. Replace the really bad stuff or the stuff that might leave you stranded - ignore the rest until it fits into the former category.
