My fj62 is now on its 4th radiator!
The first one came new from Japan.
I replaced it a few years ago when the top tank got paper thin and began weeping all over. I went with a Performance Radiator unit. It was a perfect oem fit and a decent price at the time.(less than $300)
Fast forward a couple years and during my last water pump replacement I got impatient, slipped and jammed a huge f'ing hole in the middle of it...3x
!!
Replaced that one with another Performance Rad which had gone up in price by now.($388)
Fast forward a couple years to a few weeks ago...when I walk out to the truck to find all the coolant puked on the ground, lots of red coolant spray on the front of the motor. It appears a seam let loose...hard to tell but it failed somewhere.
I call Perf Rad, they say 3 year warranty WITH RECEIPT, I panic looking for receipt, found receipt, panic off, I am 2 years to the day into the 3 year warranty..whew! They are now $477!
Pulled the rad Friday, took it to PR, they replaced it for free, no questions asked. Although you have to assure them only 50/50 distilled water and coolant were used.
Got it all buttoned up with new t-stat yesterday. We'll see how this one lasts, they have gotten pricey!!
Unfortunately during the first test run my temp gauge just quit working...completely dead for the first time in 21 years. Another
.
Not sure which sensor on the tstat housing belongs to the dash gauge..damn it.
Oh yeah, LESSON LEARNED: Keep all those receipts, file in a nice safe easy to find place.
