So since I was pushing the snow with my diff, adam figures he'd still be able to stay on top with his big 38's, but we soon found he was pushing snow with his diff as well, so we chained him up to break trail.

Then we got to the tight section, good thing there was no snow on that cause otherwise we'd be turning around. But just after was a huge drift, so we ended up setting up camp at the hill side to tackle the snow drift in the morning.

Got a little cold the first night, and started snow/raining a bit so we tarped in huddled around the small fire next to the road. In the morning we chained up and went to tackle the drift, I was to go first hoping my front locker would decrease tire spin on the snowy offcamber drift

On to battle with the drift. Started off digging a trench on the high side to keep the tire in the trench and keep the truck from sliding into the revene. Then after half an hour or an hour of shoveling, jump in the truck and see if it works, and by golly it did!:hillbilly:

Then the Big Bronco makes a go of it.

With the big drift concoured we feel invincible and ready to take on the next few drifts, and then it starts!

The Killer drift, where after a bit of shoveling, and winching onto, snaping my birf or two, we figure out we are a little screwed as Adam tries winching me back but all he can do is drag himself forward. Ended up looking under my truck and looked like my frame was encased in hard packed snow. so time to shovel out my truck, then trim a few trees to squeeze by the drift and keep moving forward as it would take us quite a while to try to turn around on this tight trail.

So then we keep hugging the edge of the road overlooking the deep river valley and the snow drift, shovelling a trench if it was too off camber and our trucks started sliding over the edge. One final long snow drift, then a quick winch over the last part and we were home free of the sketchy snow drift area!

Took us a full day of shoveling and winching and we were dead tired. Finally made to the first campsite which usually takes us an hour or two, but really only 20 min or so from where we camped on a good day. Anyway pulled my front tire off that wasn't spinning and found the busted birf, only had one spare, and the other side might have broken there too, or later, but I think was binding up on the shreds and still turning, found out on the way back that side was busted too as it stopped turning and when I got home to change it, the whole inside of the housing was pretty mashed up, enough I had to actually grind the inside to get the seal to sit properly. Anyway woke up the next day to a nice view and ready to go on.

 that birf looks nasty.

Wish I was there, looks like fun!

Yes not the best place to be doing front knuckle work, hence now running longfields. but tip for anyone running big tires locker and you carry spare birf. This is second (and third) birf I've blew and never thought about it, but this birf blew out my axle seals, so recomend carrying spare seals and extra grease (i did have grease though) with you as well.

Anytime Phil, and would consider bringing out old blue for you to drive in here if you need some wheels while you wait to get the engine replaced on your truck, just be warned, blue is a bikini top truck now :hillbilly:

Excellent conclusion to the story.

Thats not it yet Neil, we still got a couple big river crossings, more snow, bronco breaking good time. Just was sick today, then tommorow in the field, so might take me a while to get the rest out.:hillbilly:
