I found this 4BT turbo diesel from a forklift machine. Would this engine be suitable for a swap?!

"This engine runs great. It's currently on a 1972 pettibone forklift. The forklift leaks hydraulic fluid and has become cost prohibitive to fix it. If interested you are welcome to look at it while it is still operational. Buyer is responsible for removing the engine which can be done at my yard. The engine was manufactured 02/20/1996. It was put on the forklift at the end of the DIA build and has seen little use since. Mostly just a yard tractor."

Anything to especially look out for on these?

If it was a 4bt, the owners asking price of $1500 is a good deal, but your still less the bell/trans/related. What we have there is a 4b non-turbo. They make;

Gross = 54hp
Net = 51hp

Peak torque at 1200 rpm 179 ft-lb

I think in a highway vehicle it would be taking three steps backwards. To turbo them is very involved (most have no oil squirters, so you have to pull the crank and mod to install), they are also higher compression which may pose problems and most have an off highway CAV pump which are less than ideal.

Thanks - I suspected that it's a NA diesel so I asked the owner in an email and he wrote that it's a 4BT turbodiesel... :) Thanks Shawn.

Really? The serial # doesn't jive with a turbo. Did he remove the turbo, because I don't see it and the intake tubing heads forwards...

I have a 4bt that I'm selling, haven't gotten the post up yet. I also have a chevy adaptor and a ford manual adaptor, two starters, flywheel and flex plate... This project just isn't going to happen right now for me so I'd like to see it go to another mudder :-)

I pulled mine out of a F150 conversion, have all pics and video of it running.

PM if anyone is interested.
