I'm planning on modifying the accelerator cable attachment to the stock carburetor on my '71 FJ40 build that will allow me to use the later air cleaner housing from my '76 FJ40 donor vehicle (otherwise there would be an interference). I figured out I can use the bellcrank and rod assembly from an early '73 FJ40 - that will allow me to re-route the accelerator cable to clear the air cleaner housing. I have a couple of spare '73 carburetor bases with the linkage piece with the ball stud, but I don't have the bell crank and rod assembly. I'm looking for Part IDs 78130, 78141A, 78104 (X2 - two different part numbers), 90587-05016, and 90463-06161. The other parts are still available from Toyota.

I think I saw one on the floor in the back room earlier while I was pulling parts for @Dallas Todd. Got to get a new shop light in there. :rolleyes:

@73FJ40 Is that the factory routing for the cable, with the loop in there? What is the go-to accelerator cable for the bell crank, does it have to be OEM?

@Dizzy

Yes, I've confirmed that's the routing for the cable. Just adjust the loop position to keep it away from the exhaust manifold.

Since OEM is NLA, I'd suggest @cruiseroutfit, at his new (great to use) website:

The cable sheath that I just ordered is 25-inches, 31-inches cable. SOR aftermarket - so who knows the brand, or the quality. Also, a used bellcrank, and an aftermarket pedal. I'm nervous about poking a hole in the firewall, but, I'd like a cable alternative to linkage. I notice that you have the orange boots for the correct '75 throttle assembly, I'm going to pretend that you aren't offering this part, so I don't feel guilty about poking a hole in the firewall.

I'm considering this project a trail-clearing one, so, like shopping for clothes, try it on, see if it fits, try to make it work. Post pics here of what you have.
