Alright, so i found another one which is at a decent price i guess so i put a deposit on it.

Very Versitile Toyota Landcruiser 2000

It is being sold by a guy (fernando) who looks like he has nothing to do with land cruisers but claims its his baby. Car has georgia plates and when looking in the glove box found a registration for someone in georgia. I had no way of getting ahold of that person but got ahold of their real-estate agent who told me client (marylyn) sold it to some other guy (mike) at the club. That is all the info i have on that. Carfax has no details on this transaction and as far as then know the car is still owned by the georgia owner. Can checks out mechanically (as far as i can tell) but this back story sounds like it has been pasted between a couple sales people. Should i be concerned? I jave not seen the title yet but buying today so wi take a good look at it. Has no matinace records and seller says he did timming belt with autozone parts in the last year.

Thanks for your opinions,

Mason

Have him show you the title. If it's not titled in his name, make him title it in his name before you buy. I would also have it inspected by a mechanic you trust. I bought a LC earlier this year that looked good (to me), but ended up having some issues.

Cool, unfortunately dont have much time to get in inspected but compard to the last one i checked out this one looks great. What issues did overlook on yours that later caused issues?

Should be some form of a bill of sale.....and maybe he hasn't titled it in his name yet, which isn't that abnormal. But if it's his "baby" then it should be in his name.

I agree, if it isn't in his name then have him title it first.

"This baby won't cry when taken off road" lol. I'd offer the guy $7000 cash and call it a day. Sounds like he happened into the vehicle and is probably just wanting to flip it quickly. After you buy it drive it over to your mechanic and have him do a once over. You can pull the cover back and take a peek at the TB too.

Looks like it's in good condition. Show up with cash and he'll probably bite.

Also, since it's a 2000 model I would shift through all the gears and listen for any grinding type noises......make sure it shifts nice and smooth.

Its more like he wants to raise the lrice as he has received many calls on it so i agreed on the $8200. That still seems like a pretty good deal imo for Phoenix. Yes, rig looks like its in good condition.

This sounds fishy and similar to another recent mudder, that truck had a rolled odometer. Sold as 180k, but had more like 480k.

Please be careful.

Will do and thanks for the advice. I have pulled two vin reports on it and im working on getting it to a mechanic. Last miliage was reported at ~166k a year ago so milelage seems good

Only issues (potential issues) i saw were front bumper paint, minor hail damage on roof and one hit on the hood. Cvs are leaking or something is leaking on them. (Looks like greese). Looked like there was some kind of leak on the passanger sode of engine. When driving from a start up i heard i little click with engine power but that went away once i got driving.

Overall the truck looks good, but you can get one for similar money from a mudder, one that doesn't have a VA front license plate, GA rear plate, sitting in az with a different owner.

Someone here, on this forum. I think everyone here has more appreciation and understanding of these trucks and more likely to be treated well/maintained.

Check carfax & Toyota history with vin, note mileage and compare. Then check that VIN matches title on door, frame, engine & body. Seller may just be saving registration fees and time by note titling, but it's a red flag. Make sure you see title with signature matching name on the face. Additional meet at his home, and see & copy his driver license so you know how you're dealing with (he should have nothing to hind). If all this checks out then inspect, inspect, inspect starting with undercarriage (don't buy rust).

If all checks out price looks good to me.

When you say 'mudder' what do you mean?
He's referring to some here on ih8mud (mudder) that recently posted. The mudder was scammed by seller on mileage, mudder (buyer) didn't check carfax which showed more like 485K miles. Title was not in seller name and they met in a parking lot.

Will do, i already have a pic of his drivers liscence. I foubd most vins but where are they on the motor, frame and body?

Virginia plates on the front, Georgia on the plates...interesting.

No kidding, and its sitting in az. Carfax did show first owner was vergina and second was georgia. I cant peice together how it got to az though. It was last regestered in georgia by second owner in july 2015.

Create an account on Toyota Owners site and enter the VIN so you can see any Toyota service history. Great feature to use to help you identify what's been done.
