Rusty has it right. Most campsites are oriented for the passenger side. Example, campsites with pull-throughs have the open area facing the passenger side, based on the direction of traffic flow in the campsite. Otherwise, you rig would be opening away from the table, fire pit, etc. Tom
 
Passenger side!!

I open mine on the passengers side. My thought was that if I was on a road somewhere, I could open it away from other vehicles.
