For those who retrofit short jump seats into early FJ40s

Hi All -

For those of you who retrofit the later roll bar and short jump seats into an early FJ40, how did you attach the seat at the upper railing (pic below with pilot hole)? I know for the wheel well, a reinforcing plate is used (second pic).

The upper railing is just thin sheet metal.

my 77 just looks like a nut welded to the sheet metal itself. not sure there much more shear strength hence my decision. might not be the strongest but i figure the seat belt is not hooked to the seat so will hold the seat in place with the passenger
 
I just drilled and tapped the upper rail for short jump seats in my 68. That was over forty years ago. It been off the road for a number of years. It's needs to be repainted and the is plan to redo the front buckets from a 74, jump seats out of a 76 and roll bar from a 79.
