When I bought this, my plan was to tear it down and restore/rebuild. However due to time constrainents and lack of funds, I have decided to sell it. I bought this FJ running and drivable. I was told the engine was recently rebuilt when I bought it. The engine seemed to run strong and compression tests were good. However it did need carburetor work. As I began to get it ready for PA Inspection, I decided that the best way to know what I have is to tear it down. So that’s what I did. I tore the entire truck down. I then had the frame sent out to have all rust cut out, sand blasted and rust cutouts repaired. I had a new front cross member fabricated (Old one was completely rusted) to allow for power steering to be added. Then the frame was painted with POR15. I then torn down both axels and had them sand blasted. I rebuilt both axels and gave them a fresh coat of paint too. I upgraded the rear drum brakes to discs. I installed new leaf springs (Hell Creek) & shocks with a 4in lift. Right now the truck is built up as a rolling chassis (Axels, suspension, frame, wheels & tires). I have tons of parts (to many to list) & pictures. I bought the truck for $3500. I easily have $3000 invested on top of that. I am looking to get $4000 for everything. I am located in south eastern PA (outside of Hanover). Call me with any questions. Ask for Matt 717-227-9921

PS… I had started a build blog at https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/227848-tear-down-build-up.html . Feel free to check out what I have there. It documents my tear down, but I never updated the blog with the build ups

This is very tempting since I'm not too far away in MD, might be a bigger job than my skill level though getting her back together.

Wish I had the cash! Would love a father/son project, and this would be a good starting point! My skills are low as well, but he's 10, and we've got a few years till he hits the trails!

FJ40

Well the 40 is going to an appreciative new young owner. Bubs (my nephew Zach) is the new owner. Welcome to the world of land cruisers, Zach! Now we just have to sort out the truckload of parts and get this thing back together. Matt represented this project very accurately, I didn't see anything that was disappointing. I'm sure Zach will keep the site updated as to what progress we make. Shmukster

Glad you got it sold Matt.. Good luck Zach with the rebuild... Looks like a nice setup. Can't wait to see the finished product. Base looks incredible from the pics!!
