I understand why the 200 has the tumble forward second row seats, but, for my purposes, the fold flat second row in my 21 4Runner is far more useful. I'm wondering if Toyota ever offered a fold flat second row in other markets that I might find used somewhere.

I mean, I can remove the second row completely, but, for my purposes it's helpful to be able to carry 4 people.

TIA for help or suggestions.

Negative. And the fuel tank hanging below the frame rails in a 4Runner is a good example of why.

Well, different vehicle, different frame etc. A good skid plate and 255/80r17 tires helps with clearance, or lack of. Seems like the second row on the 200 could have folded at least flatter, even if not perfectly flat. Oh well, nevermind. I'll just remove all the rear seats.

That's what I've done for trips since I got my 200.

If you haven't read about it you'll need to trick the airbag system into not throwing a light when you remove the second row. I used to stick a resistor into the connector but a number of us have moved to these adapters and they work great.

Thanks, definitely a useful piece of kit.

For clarification, do you mean flat load floor or flat surface even it is on top of the folded second row seats? In other words, the second row seat backs fold flat to the lower cushion without tumbling the entire seat forward.

Well, I may have used the term "fold flat" in the wrong context, but what I'm thinking of is the way my 4Runner, and the 4 door Wrangler seats fold down. The bottom cushion flips forward, and the back cushion folds down, creating a flat-ish cargo floor. Obviously, not trying to have a perfectly flat cargo deck. What I notice is that when the 200 second row tumbles forward, it really doesn't add a whole lot of cargo room. The 4Runner second row folds up to create significantly more cargo room.

The seats in the 4Runner weight next to nothing. The seats in the Cruiser are like boat anchors. No fold flat because of the frame. Same reason 3rd row vertical leg room is horrific. It’s a truck, not a minivan.

Sigh. This is pointless.

My original question was probably unclear, as evidenced by the follow-up comments, but what I'm wondering is whether other markets for the 200 had different second row seats.

So, what I'm going to do is reach out beyond US forum members to other markets to find my answer.

If you don't know anything about the 200 series in other markets, no need to reply. Everyone move along, nothing to see here.

There has not been a different 2nd row design in any other markets… It only comes one way.

My second row seats, when folded flat, are a perfect match to my home built raised floor system. It works exceptionally well and given me a flat load surface from hatch to front seat backs.

I second these

But 4Runner is body on frame as well……. And is considered a ”truck “ too.

What he is asking is why the different second row seat design? In the 4runner, the bottom cushion lifts up and then the back rest folds down…creating a flat floor.

And no, I have never heard of 4runner seat breaking apart bc it is any less durable!

In my opinion a setup like this offers more storage options than the 4runner super flat cargo space area.

Looks like my set up, with a removable section that fits over and protects the second row seats. Easily removable if I need to give someone an unexpected ride.
Exactly how I have mine too. I have a couple hinges and wing nuts. Can either flip it over or I can unscrew and completely remove it. The section that goes over the 2nd row (folded) is spray foamed to protect the seats but I also put a piece of foam and a towel down because I want to avoid any damage to the seats while my girlfriend and I are sleeping.

So you removed the 2nd row altogether?
Negative. The 2nd row is folded and there is a detachable plywood section that completes the sleeping platform. When not camping it is removable and have full access to 2nd row.

Pic 1 is everyday use
Pic 2 is camping
