hi all.

last night i took the R151f out of my pzj77, to find the flywheel in an ugly condition. somebody had previously welded bits of it together, but the welds had busted again (is the flywheel cast?)

No trace of the springs or loose debris, but the clutch disc is pretty scored. Before i dropped the gearbox i had notions of maybe trying to repair the flywheel but its beyond repair.

So ive been reading on here. it seems i have two options. well 4, but two are over a grand which i dont have (exedy flywheel kit and toyota replacement dual mass, 1200 and 2000 respectively)

so of the diy methods i have two options:

use a 1HZ solid flywheel, ala "PZJ70" who used a a HZJ78/9 clutch plate, but he had to source a longer throwout bearing from a coaster mini bus.
I have no idea of the part number for this bearing though.

weld and balance the flywheel i have, and use a clutch disc from a (bj42,bj45,bj46,bj70,bj73)
part number 31250 36113 , 31250 36161 , 31250 36233 , 31250-36160 , 31250-36280 or 31250-36301
together with the original 1pz/r151f pressure plate, im not sure about the bearing used with this method

lol. thats what ive come up with so far. from the threads that ive read, it seems the cruiser in question passed hands quickly afterwords, or, the poster with the solution disappeared, so there doesnt seem to be anyone with driving the car for any lenght of time after the mod.

if anyone can chime in here with any input to help me make up my mind im all ears, thanks for reading,

Redd.

get a solid mass flywheel and replace that dual mass one.
I don't know what vehicle will fit the r151 flywheel though.
Good luck! There is someone else who had this issue on here before.

Exedy sells a conversion kit from dual mass to single mass flywheels.

It's probably the easiest way of going about the issue.

The springs in the dual-mass flywheel of my PZJ70 came loose a while back. My mechanic had the flywheel welded and mated to a spring loaded Isuzu clutch.

A few weeks with the solid flywheel and the gearbox started to make a loud rattling noise when in neutral gear. However, the racket would cease once I depressed the clutch.

I was worried about damage to my drivetrain and reluctantly, put in a new dual mass flywheel.

Subsequently, there has been no noise from the gearbox and there seems to be less vibration over all as well.

If you do plan to keep your vehicle for a long time, I would recommend that you seriously consider replacing your flywheel with an original dual-mass setup
