Ah yes - Jim is bored at home - flies into a Tropical Storm with what sounds like ample supplies of booze accessible - and is bored? I'll trade you any time. Give me a ring when you get back - might take the flats boat up to the parents garage this Saturday and will be keeping a close eye on Ike.

Hey Capt. what would you do if Ike stayed it's course? That's almost on top of you. Would you just take the boat and move it somewhere else? Can you move it far enough in one direction in two days to weather the storm? How big is the boat?

Marshall,

I'm about 7 miles north of your aerial shot, 23*37.767 N, 075*54.780W, in a resort called Emerald Bay. I moved the boat from one of the slips to up the canal in the marina the runs to the SE. There are 3 other boats here with me. This boat is a smaller one, 43' Tiara Sovran (4300). Has all the bells and whistles you could put on a boat.

Marina is virtually empty since I brought the boat here in July. There were perhaps 70-80 here then, were down to about 10 or so.

I cannot move the boat as there are 12-15' seas just outside the harbor entrance. I am shielded from the ocean by a wide berm that is about 20' high. There is a swell in the harbor of about 2' now, but I'm tied to a floating dock.

The worst is over for Hanna, as she is now north of my position and continuing to move away. Ike will be wicked in this place and it is forcast to come real close. Airport has been closed since I landed on Tuesday. I planned to secure the boat and leave on Wednesday but even today, they haven't re-opened. Hoping to fly out tomorrow or I may be screwed.

BTW, another Captain and his wife invited me over to his rental house on the beach for a drink. Finally made it back sometime after midnight (Ran out of rum....)

Once I finish more chores here I will try to piost a pic or two.

Bill,

I'll call you when I get back.

Jim

2' + overhead on sets this morning - report from a friend on SI says Pumphouse was out of control - I could see the bigger sets rolling over the Jetty from where I was sitting at La Puerta. My son said Ocean Reef was peeling - he didn't have to be to school until 10:15 (or so he claimed). Hard offshores, lots of juice, looooooong lines, and a few barrels. Really really nice swell - and the water is slick and calm inbetween sets. Will be on the decline all day, but hope to catch it again after work.

Jim - Do you know where your daughters are :D.

Well now they have Hanna coming in at Georgetown. And it's showing signs of becoming a hurricane again. Not good. House sits about 9ft above sea level on the marsh. Storm surge for Litchfield is expected to be 6-9 ft. On top of that High tide is around 1 tonight with landfall of Hanna around the same time. Wish I would have installed a web cam.

If you need anything or any help I would be more than happy. Just shoot me a PM and I will give you my cell. I am down on Sullivans Island and it looks like it is going to miss us.

Finally flew back on Friday. Hanna generated some 15' waves and created a big surge in the marina but everything made it thru fine. Turned down an offer to help deliver a 80' Northern Marine Trawler to Jamaica while I was there. At the time, Ike was headed for SE Florida and I needed to get home to prepare there. Now that Ike's path is to the south of me, I wish I would have gone on that trip.

Good luck with Hanna SC, Keep us posted on what happens. Stay safe....

That was not bad. Nice waves. Today the waves are still fairly big but have cleaned up a lot. Lots of beer and liquor later we were done with the storm. Going out today to play in some mud at a friends land over on Johns Island. :D No damage or flooding down here.

Good luck with Ike. I hope it misses yall down in Florida and the Gulf. Of course I hope it doesnt head this way either.

How did everyone in the Carolina's fair - looks like you got quite a bit of rain?

Not bad. Creek got about 4ft above high tide. A lot of water but not enough to flood. I'm hoping the storm actually cleaned some of the creeks out of silt.
