1972 (10/71) FJ40, original F engine and 3 speed transmission. Original bench front seats and jump seats, original hard top. Odometer reads just over 55,000 miles. Fiberglass seems in ok condition (no holes) but metal gutter is shot. I’ve owned it for 5 years.
Here is a list of what I’ve done to it:
-Replaced entire exhaust system and muffler
-installed new SOR header to replace leaky exhaust manifold
-replaced shocks with Bilstein shocks
-knuckles were rebuilt
-front brakes converted to disc
-replaced starter, water pump, thermostat, radiator, belt, battery
- new OEM wheels with BF Goodrich M/T KM3 (less than 500 miles on them)
-new OEM bumper
-new wiring harness from firewall back so all lights work (haven’t connected reverse light though)
-completely flushed all coolant including in the block and have Toyota red coolant now
-LED headlights
-had the steering wheel refurbished
Previous owners did the bad bondo in the rear drivers quarter. It runs strong and stops well. Previous owner also replaced seat covers with Cruiser Corps vinyl so those are in good shape. P. O. also unhooked the heater hoses in the engine so I never did anything with that (not needed in Florida).
The main thing it really needs is rust repair or a new 3/4 tub. It’s good from the cowl forward but the tub and top where it meets the tub are really rusty (see photos). Undercarriage has surface rust but comes off with a wire brush.
I have an extra hood, some door bottom skins and patch inner & outer rocker panels, a lot of stainless hardware from Overland Metric, the wheels that came with it, some rubber parts and small odds and ends, all would go with it. Let me know if you have any questions or need photos of anything specific. I don’t drive it much and am really short on space and skills for rust repair so that is only reason I would sell. Located in New Smyrna Beach Florida (central east coast of the state).
