Floor drill press for half price at Home Depot

I'm going to let you guys in on a little secret. I found a drill press that I liked at HD, and lucky me, it was on clearance. Originally $299, they had it on sale for $259. They only had one left, so I asked the manager if he could discount it to get it on out the door. He said no, but that if I came back Monday, he might take off $100. Apparently, they have a given $$ amount per week that they are allowed to discount anything in the store. That budget rolls over every Monday. So if you want to haggle on the weekends, forget it. I went back today and scored the drill press for $159.

So, on Tue I went to my home depot and asked about both the 12" and 15" rigid drill presses that were on the clearance rack. So, I ask for the mgr, he wouldn't even come out to talk to me, and on top of that wouldn't discount it either, said it was already on clearance. I went home and found that it was $10 cheaper at home depot online- Regular Price!. go figure...

I actually called about 12 stores to find the one with the lowest price even before I went over to haggle. I would guess that finding a store that is "struggling" a little may help. Like one near a neighborhood development that never really materialized before the crash. Dunno....

Another little known secret is to use harbor freight coupons on big purchases. I go my drill for $200

That is the same drill press you can get at Harbor freight except is is orange. That is kinda sad. Wonder how much run out the chuck has.

It's not at all the same model, and as for runout, I didn't buy a mill, a bought a drill press. It has less runout than my arm with a hand drill and it was only 150 bills. For something that I would actually measure runout on, I would expect to pay 2 grand just to get in the game!
