flat towing an 80

Gary, I think it would be worth it to try and trailer it. I really wouldn't trust just putting it in neutral. But if your dead set you can pull the D shafts just in case. Still, in the case of the 80 not a great idea.
Cheers,
Nick.

I was hoing to put locking hubs on the front to take care of the front, and use Cristos diff lock switch on lock, with the t-case in neutral. What i was worried about is the viscous coupling in the t-case burning up because of the front not spinning and the rear spinning. Christo had some rear axles made with splined flanges and used rear hubs also. I just don't want to go to the expense.

if you have front locking hubs, then you would only have to pull the rear driveshaft. Then with the CDL you could still drive around (minimally) without having to put the rear shaft back on.

(btw. come to think of it, if you have both shafts pulled, why would there be any need to put it in N anyway?)

if you drop both shafts it doesnt matter what gear you are in.
I woudl highly recomend just renting a tandem axle trailer though. just for the trailer brakes if nothing else. if you are set to do it drop both the shafts for sure and dont worry about the lockouts on the hub ends they wont really help you.

Tow it on a trailer...

I have a serious tandem trailer with 5200# axles but am taking a trip to Colorado in a motorhome and don't want to pull the extra weight. I usually tow on a trailer but Flat towing is a 30 second thing. I may use the trailer anyway. Just thought I would throw it out there.

Okay a motor home should be able to handle the 80 about like an 80 could handle a Samurai.

Where in CO are you going? What trails IOW?

Its a second anual trip to the Silverton area for our club (LSLC). I have been going there since I was a youngster and last year a large group met me and this year its even larger. It looks as though there will be about 15 of us. We will run all the usual, Black Bear, Imogene, Engineer, etc. .We are leaving August 1st and heading back to Texas around August 8th. Everyone is welcome in all vehicles. Most will be Cruisers though.
Gary

I wish I could be there. It's not happenin' this year. I lived in CO for 18 years and I've never done any of those trails. :(
