Purchased an awesome BJ42 from Canada last May. Recent issue is a fuel control relay that seems to stop working for a few days (will not shut off) and then is fine for a week or so. I can usually hear a "click" when it is working correctly. Took it apart (photo attached) and nothing this newbie can see obviously wrong. Cleaned contacts and connector but not sure what to do next? Any suggestions?

You could check under the top of the fuel control motor/gearbox.

Grease can interfere with the electrical contact-points inside there (to prevent the motor from stopping the IP control rod in the correct position).

Just an idea..

Have you checked the the under side of the circuit board?
It is quite common for damage to occur due to water leakage from the windscreen.

Look at the bottom of the fuel relay and check for bad solder joints.

Next: check the EDIC motor for clean contacts

Wow, thanks for the advice and particularly the photos. My relay (and presumably EDIC motor) are in a "season" of working perfectly so I have been enjoying wheeling trips to timberline in the high Rocky Mountains. I purchased a spare EDIC relay on eBay from a fellow in Croatia with solid state relays. Hopefully it will remain in my spare kit for some time to come. Again thanks!

Hi there, I am looking for a Toyota Bj 40 diesel fuel control relay 24V. Anyone could help me find one?
Thank you in anticipation...

Did you ever locate one? I need one too...mine went out and the only way to get my bj40 running is to disconnect the edit arm. I tried replacing the capacitor but it made no difference.
