I have sold parts/given advice for a couple of people who have done it themselves. THey were impressed with the gains, but I can't quantify it any more than that. I have one I am building to hopefully be powering my wife's '62 by this summer. I'll have better first hand info then.
The cam/compression/exhaust (along with increased induction) can wake a 2F up like you would not believe. I have no reason not to expect the same when done to the 3FE. Maybe better, as the cam in the 3FE is better suited to the lower rpm desries of the 2F. A little midrange/top end improvement should make a bigger difference in the 3FE since it is happier up there anyway. I'll be much happier pushing a 3FE to 6 grand than I am a 2F.
In addition to the changes I mentioned previously, milling bore for the throttle plate (and fitting a matching plate of course) will increase airflow in a imilar manner to installing a larger carb on a non-injected motor. I've talked to a couple of other guys who insist that this made a noticable difference. It will probably be an important factor in a well balanced "warm up" of the 3FE.
Again, once I get this motor done, I will have first hand info on the entire package in this particular motor, rather than having to rely on the input of others. I have high hopes for a very noticable improvement. I can make a 2F play with the V8s with this approach and I expect about the same from the 3FE.
