I'm in the process of buying a 5.3 to replace the wheezy diesel burner in my HJ60 right now. Is it better to get the txfer case adapter and use a 4L80E or could I getaway with getting an adapter for the Toyota automatic thats in there now?

smog

so how did you handle the smog issue on this set-up?since an ls1 wasn't available in a truck, what is your smog laws regarding engine swaps?just out of curiousity.nice ride you got there, btw i was also thinking of using the zr1 engine that came in the early 90's corvette they are just a work of art IMHO.:D

I was thinking the same thing. Not going to the Drag Strip. Camp trailer in the mountains. Would a 5.3 be better than a LS1. Swap guys what do you think? thx matt

You still around?

Any input on the above questions? Especially the torque nuimbers and towing/pulling, general low range "grunt" capabilities of the rig with the LS1?

Really interested and nice swap.

Oops sorry..... as for the numbers I don't know haven't dyno'd it but I will say this there is no shortage of power!!!!!!!!! The engine is rated for 345hp and 365 lb ft torque. I would suspect a 20% loss thru the trans and rear and another 10'ish % from the xfer case. Either way comparing the performance of the 3fe to the LS1 is like comparing a Geo Metro to a Muscle Car. When you get on it it pulls hard!!! It will have no problem pulling a boat the only thing you really have to worry about are the brakes. I would consider an upgrade before pulling any thing of considerable weight.

That's great bro and thank you for the update:cheers:

Boats I'll need to move are not that big or heavy (airboats up to +/- 18' and fixed hull up to +/- 21' center consoles)

Numbers sound great.....thanks again!

If I'm gathering what you listed for parts correctly, all you need from the donor car is:

Motor
Tranny
ECU
Wiring
Emissions related components.

That's it right ?

The rest are misc. parts you need to get it to work in the truck....

Also,

Did you get the AC to work ? If so, what did you use to get it to work ?

Thanks!

AC works great, got an aluminum radiator and need a fan shroud now. The toyo system manages the refrigerant pressure well cycles off and on no problem so far. All i had to do was install a micro switch on the fan control switch on the dash so the elec fan turns on when the ac is turned on. It is concealed behind the dash.

So how are you controlling the A/C compressor "cycling"?
