The water pump is held on to the front of the engine with 4 fasteners. 3 of them are studs, the 4th is a long bolt. I have lost track of where the bolt goes. I think it goes in the low position, or at about 5 oclock as you look at the water pump face on. Can anyone confirm this for me? (The bolt in question also holds the alternator bracket in place.)

I'll be grateful for any help.

Thanks.

Yup, the long bolt goes in the very bottom hole. The others are studs.

'Nuther question:

Does the new water pump come with the pulley seat on it, or do I have to remove the old one and press it into the new pump?

Nope, just bolt it on. You may want to use a very little bit of form a gasket to afix the new gasket to the new pump.

So the new pump comes with this round mount plate as a part of the pump? (In the pic, the screwdriver is pointing at it.)

FYI, the water pump area of a 3FE is one busy place. Here's where the water pump goes. I have the flat area all cleaned up and ready for the new pump.

I've installed two 2F waterpumps, and both came with the flange that you show in the picture. My guess is the 3F Waterpump is exactly the same. In the end, I just removed the radiator to replace the ones on my FJ40 and FJ60. That gives you room to work, and you can see what you are doing.

The FSM language almost makes it sound like I have to press the flange off the old pump and put it on the new pump.

This job is done! :D

Cruiser Dan shipped me a new pump. I dropped it in. For me, a slow wrench, it was about a 6 hour job. My Cruiser and I know each other pretty well now.

The large hose, that goes from the water pump to the bottom of the radiator, was a bit of a rascal. It is a 3 piece hose. Two sections of rubber with a section of metal in the middle. Took a lot of trial and error to get it all fit back in there.

No leaks so far; I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

:bounce:

Thanks!
