I'm using a 1988 FJ62 frame, axles, and 4-speed conversion for my FJ79 pick-up build and need to know what the hauling capacity of the non full floater axle is versus a full floating non-US spec rear axle. I'm looking at a small truck camper for the back of the pick-up and do not want to overload the semi-floating stock rear axle. I will be using FZJ79 rear springs which from the number of leaves and overloads are designed to haul a lot more weight than a FJ62 wagon.

2.1 qt. I think. Dont know about the FF.

Did you mean fluid or weight?

Yes, how much weight can each carry..

According to an Aussie 60 series brochure I have-

Rear axle, full float capy.- 2500KG or 5500 lbs.

Not sure on the semi, couldn't find any info at the moment. I would imagine it being a decent amount less.

IIRC the semi floats are rated for 1/2 ton cargo capacity. I've regularly hauled a full ton of pellet fuel in my 62 before when stocking up for my grandmother for the winter. Gets squirrely as hell, but it held and didn't even sit against the bump stops unless I actually hit a bump.

'Course, maybe that's why my rear springs were so damn flat by the time I put in the AALs

I posted this a year ago or so, worth a look. If you are going to haul any significant loads swap for a full float.

Just checked the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating for the rear axle of my 62, 3685 lbs. You will see a drastic difference in that brochure in the PDF file.

I am looking to put at least a 2000 pound truck camper in the bed of the truck, remember it is a FJ79 pick-up body on a stretched 62 series frame with FJ62 rear axle and Heavy duty FJ79 rear leaf springs. I just don't want to overload the stock semi floating axle.

Run the full float, you won't be sorry. I have a full float on my diesel.
