has anyone ever removed one of these chrome racks? a bit useless i think..... I have just put a deposit on a FJ62 that not only has the chrome dealer installed rack it also has a spoiler. The FJ appears to be mint so its not a deal killer

I think they look like crap and was wondering whats involved in repairing the holes, hopefully there is a simple fix?

Thanks

Screws with nylon washer. Should run you $.50.

Think I'll weld mine shut, though.

given that this truck is coming from dry Texas to wet Vancouver, Im thinking a dab of marine polyurethane caulking like sikaflex may be best for here. Once we decide on new paint then properly weld it up.....

Yeah they are definately screwed to the roof. Sucks when you decide to take it off because it is truly useless.
Rust holes where they screwed the old chrome rack to the roof

planning on removing the dealer installed chrome racks
it has 4 screws into the roof
cross bar broke-pretty weak roof racks
replacing with yakima gutter rack
what would be best way to seal the 4 screw holes in roof?

Is there any market for the racks? Seems like everybody is taking them off.
I don't think so.

I took mine off too and luckily only had a little surface rust to deal with. I didn't weld my weld my holes as I was afraid that I would burn my headliner. Used JB weld, sanded, primed with a KBS coating and then Monstalined my truck. Did my gutters at the same time. No rust at all thank goodness. I've got a Bowfin rack on the old girl now. That darn thing will hold just about anything.
