I also have a bad wire at the water temperature switch. Did you find one? I'm trying to fix the same thing on my truck.

Gotcha, thanks. Just getting my feet wet and learning how to get around this forum. I broke the wire off today (water temp switch). It was just hanging by a thread, and like picking at a scab, I could not resist tugging on it a bit, which ended it. I'm not sure what the result is, but it seems to be running about the same. It has a warm engine stumble/miss, before and after the connector broke. So far I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator, plugs and wires, and rotor. I have a fuel pulsation damper and a fuel filter which I will install this weekend. The truck is desmogged. Canister seems in bad shape so that's also on the list. I have not found a vacuum leak though I have looked quite a lot with carb cleaner. It idle's high. Timing may be advanced too much. Just trying to go through it and identify issues. Hopefully I'll find the one causing the rough idle. Any help finding that water temperature switch connector would be greatly appreciated!

Since the OP didn't close out this thread with a resolution, I'll post one.

I had a near identical issue as the OP, would bog at idle, in gear while stopped. Drove fine but the idle would never settle in. I replaced all hoses, desmogged, tried A different AFM, adjusted the TPS dozens of times, even tried a different one. Kept getting code 51. I won't bore you with everything I did but I did a lot.

No vacuum leaks yet vac gauge would wobble pretty good and was at around 13-14.
I finally sacked up and adjusted my valves, replaced the valve cover gasket, replaced the PCV and its gasket and... Sweet Mary my problem was solved after I retimed it. Runs smooth as butter and idles down when warm finally. Rock steady 19 vac.

So, the magic bullet I was looking for ended up being more of a shotgun blast but that is what solved my issue. Code gone. On to the next thing.

Thanks for your reply. I'll see if I can do the same thing and get similarly positive results. I have done some of those things already, but not all of them.
