I have an fj62. when driving in the rain it occasionally dies. if i let it sit for a few it usually starts back up. only does this when it is raining usually very hard. any ideas what would cause this

You need spark and fuel for it to run. check spark first. I'm guessing distributor is not sealed all the way?

X2.....

If i was you at night go raise the hook and start the motor. see if you can see anything arching like your plug wires.....dizzy whatever.

Do a direct test. Turn your hose on real low and them dump water on the dizzy. If it sputters then it's probably a sealing issue that can be solved witha ebad of silicon.

You might verify that the ventilation hoses to the distributor are hooked up properly. Also, you might clean and put dielectric grease on the various grounds in the engine compartment

distributor is not sealed all the way.... check for leaks or bad seal. do you have the stock rubber boot that slips over it still?

Snap the boot back around your dist. and you're ready to go. VERY simple fix. DON'T DRIVE THROUGH HUGE PUDDLES!

Running through puddles is fun period!

I had a 4runner with the same symptoms. Eventully figured out the computer and connectors were getting wet from a leaking windshield. Truck would spit/sputter/not idle. Only happened when it was raining. I am not too familiar with my new to me 62, but assuming the computer is on the passenger kick panel...could be the culprit.

The FJ62 ECU is located directly below the glove box. You can see it looking up from the floor mats.
