FJ62 bad water leak in cabin - continued - wit's end (1 Viewer)

Following up on FJ62 cabin water leak round II - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj62-cabin-water-leak-round-ii.1210015/

I've sealed the seams around the cowl, replaced the windshield and gasket, and I still get about 1-2 cups of water in the drivers side channel and it usually collects around the driver's rear section. It's like I'm driving a convertible with no top. What's the next point of failure to eliminate?

I've done the hose on the car on a dry day to try to pin point the entry of the water with no luck yet.



In this photo you can see the water pooling in this area I've added POR15 to, due to it holding water every time it rains.

I was just noticing that when I put the high res pictures up on a monitor, I'll check that entry point today, thanks for the call out.

Something does not look right on this. Tried to find pics of when I did this on my last truck but no luck. I can see your trucks been hit on that side. Also, did you scrape/wire wheel the old material (to fresh metal) before applying the seam sealer? And might check the seams with red arrows. Can’t recall, but they may provide access to the cab. Lastly, have you cleaned out any debris from inside the wiper valence?

I didn’t wire wheel it off since the old sealer had cracked and fallen off. It could be that it’s still getting in. I did clean out the cowl drain, so that part should be good.

I would definitely pull the drain (3 Philip’s screws) and seam seal that horizontal joint. I’m not 100% sure but believe that might provide access to the cab as well. Unfortunately I’m not home or I’d look at a cowl and could verify this.

That’s a strong possibility I hadn’t thought of. If that’s the case, I’ll need a body shop’s assistance to get this whole quarter straightened out.

If the rubber door seal isn’t sealing well, all the water that lands on the roof (or at least half of it) flows to the gutters and down the A pillar. If that door seal leaks, the water will end up on the cabin floor

Have you seen the water coming in/down behind the kick panel adjacent to the foot rest, and then running to the space behind the driver seat? I am wondering if it is coming down your b pillar, as a result of the sealer behind the rain gutter failing.

I haven’t been able to get much beyond seeing it drip out of the speaker cone in the drivers door once when I was camping in the car during a rainstorm. I haven’t been able to trace that leak and it hasn’t happened since.

I would suggest removing the kick panel and the b pillar plastic cover(lower half of b pillar), and using the hose, see where water is running down - a, b pillar or both. If its coming down the b pillar, I think its your rain gutter.

My a pillar gets wet just below the upper windshield corner, above the top of the grab handle, on both sides of the windshield. I believe my sealer behind the chrome rain gutter has failed. I have the sealer, just need to find the time...

Here’s the inner door jam, doesn’t seem too beat up at a glance, but it’s definitely wet all the way down the weather stripping.
Would the fix for this be a body shop pulling out the affected areas?

None of the pillars seemed like a leak entry point despite me missing the chrome trim.

What OSS said, PLUS, make sure the drain holes in the bottom of the door are clear. You'll have to remove the door cards to fully clean them.

If water is getting in when the car is parked it most likely is not your door jam (hinge side) unless you can see daylight. You’d have to have some serious wind for the water to be pushed around the pinch welds in the jams.

So if that’s the case, it’s likely that I need additional seam lines sealed on the same cowl area?
