Selling the 60 will result in regret. I've done it twice :( Nothing compares to the character a 60 series has.

My '84 FJ60 with the H42 lifted on 33's got 15.2 mpg cross-country (high altitude) verified by gps, FWIW. I challenge any FZJ or 3FE to do the same.

Old, useful thread, so I'll add to it rather than start anew.

I've been parsing through the differences between the 60 and 80 and I thought I was set on the 80. Then I found comments about how much more room there is in the back of the 60. I intend on overlanding with this truck so there will be a few nights spent in the back and as I'm 6'4" I'll appreciate all the room I can get. I'll be pulling all but the front seats, so how much of a difference will I find? Enough to matter?

60 has a ton more room with the back seats in because the backs fold flat into a platform, while the 80's "tumble" the whole seat forward (consuming about a foot of space). With the back seats out, they should be about the same lenght. Slight edge to the 60 because there is less plastic intruding on the cargo space and the wheelwells are a little smaller, but really not much difference.

I don't believe there's that much difference to be found with these wagons with the rear seats out. A comfort disadvantage for 60 series is the lack of legroom for a tall person such as you and me. I added seat extenders, which made a world of difference.
