US spec 60's have manual locks and that just fine, except the rear hatch would be nice to have a PL.

So I noticed that AUS spec 60's had a option(or standard) rear hatch lock, no other locks just the hatch/gate.

So I was thinking........ya all think a fj62 rear hatch/gate PL will work in a US spec fj60? I am kinda guessing that the later model 60s(like a 86-87) may actaully have the wiring in place for the PL in the back........but I have not looked.

Thoughts, ideas?

John,

I just cjhecked the 60 lift gate I have in the garage. It has 4 connectors - single red, single black, and three wires into a third connector. I haven't pulled them, so I don't hink they are any more that the rear defrost and the rear window squirter.

from reading the FSM last night, the power lock selnoid has 3 wires in a conector.......so maybe its there

the relay is in the DS rear panel.

John,

If the wiring harness is there, which I don't think it is, you will also need to change the entire lock cylinder to the 62 version. Different lock, I know cause I got the wrong one and tried for a couple of hours to hook it up. D'oh!

My hatch door is from an early 60 on my 62. I had to make a bracket to hold an aftermarket lock actuator and I tied it in with its own polarity reversing relay to the factory lock system. Cost about $30.
The wiring was not in the 60 series rear hatch that I have. I had to add the harness myself, but it was no big deal. I bet a Toy actuator would be easy to mount and wire if you had one.

Gary [Waggoner5], were you able to actually use the 60 lock hardware, too? And does your system actually unlock the door, or does it pop it open? I just looked at the back lock on my 60, and it appears that it is probably possible to rig up an actuator to work the latch and open the door, but if you want to just unlock it without opening it you're out of luck.

This wouldn't normally be a problem, but if you're adding power locks, you don't want to unlock your doors and *open* the tailgate at the same time--you just want it all to unlock.
