fj60 purple bvsv

I rebuilt my carb and replaced all the vacuum hose while I was at it. When taking off the old vacuum hose I noticed that the purple bvsv on the water pump housing was broke. Upon removing it the old bvsv threads were partially fused to the water pump housing threads. So after my meticulous and slow removal of the upper purple bvsv the threads stripped. I am going to try to tapp out the water pump housing to see if I can get the threads cleared out. Right now the truck is running without the purple bvsv, I have the hole plugged with the old broken bvsv and the two vacuum lines that lead to the bvsv plugged. Can someone tell me exactly what the purple bvsv does? And my engine is idling a little rough now could this be the cause?
 
I believe it opens a vacuum circuit when engine reaches a certain temperature. Not sure on what circuit, but general idea...

Check SOR... I think they carry them.
 
an auto shop once broke mine...depending on where it broke there's a fix. if it's only broke at the nipple, you can get a regular vacuum line adapter (ie 3 way split, joint...) from checker or something, and cut off the nipple. drill a hole in the bvsv that it will fit in, and glue it up. its worked several times for us, hth
 
From my 1981 2F Emission Control Repair Manual, the violet BVSV opens the EGR system and the charcoal canister after the engine gets up to temperature, but the main advance on the distributor is also plumbed through it. It shouldn't affect much at idle, though a functioning EGR needs the timing to be a little retarded. IOW, without the EGR working your ignition timing will be a little too advanced. Of greater importance is the need to have the main advance of the distributor connected directly to the Advancer Port at the base of the carb, if you're not going to replace the violet BVSV. If you don't have to pass a smog test where you live, consider a complete de-smog. When you have broken/non-functioning smog components, a de-smog can result in improved engine smoothness and performance. It did on mine.

It's possible that some of this may have changed by whatever year your 60 is, but I doubt it.
 
Going thru all my vacuum line I noticed that both my bvsv are broken. Looks like someone even bypassed bvsv1 after broke and just looped one end of hose to other. I thing a my try this fix before buying new and having to extract those old ones out. Thanks.
 
FJ Money, you won't pass smog if the tech catches it, let alone meet the passing numbers ( if you're trying to pass legitimately, that is... :D)

Already passed smog after much $$ for cat, o2 and carb work. My numbers went from gross polluter to next to nill. I am surprised though that with these things broken it passed so well. I'm now in the process of just getting everything in order, fix what I can fix to give this much neglected fj60 a new life. And yes those things are nowhere near $15. If you can find them for that let me know.

like a month or two ago. i know i was shocked because thats the price i always heard from everyone here. it may have been 20-30 but i know it wasnt more than that

and still pretty sure it was around 15. violet bvsv for the water pump.
