got the IDS ordered monday
the AA kit came in monday

hit a snag with the H55, the one i had purchased needed more repairs than it was worth to get it working.

Was going to buy $OR but on top of what they charge for the rebuilt engine/tranny they want about another 400 to ship it (i've had engines/trannys with cases shiped from Cali/oregon for 200-275).

Guess i'll just save up a little extra cash and purchase a new H55F and rebuild one of my two transfer cases (the low mileage one would just need new seals/gaskets for removal/install)

Tried the toyota dealership Ralph Hayes or whatever it's called and they want about 2300 for it and can't give a discount for mud or UC members

I thought the going rate was about 1800 new from toyota. Contacted cruiser dan and his price is about 2100 + about another 250 in parts to make it complete.

Will continue looking for a deal

Either way, with the new cherokee sitting in the drive way i'll put the engine in anyway and just drive the cruiser around town (under 60mph) and work out all the bugs while looking for the lowest price possible on a new tranny

Which model do you need?

33030-60450 $2169.00 or 33030-60431 $2239.00?

If you get me all the part #'s I can have my brother check with Sparks. I am not sure if he can get much more off than what Jamie already does for us but he can try. he is a service tech there now.

http://www.cruiserparts.net/parts/fj60.htm Cruiserparts.net has them delivered with the oiler cup and bushing to use your existing shifter for $2600.

Jeremy

2600 is totally doable

i don't know which part number i need, i know it's the coarse 10 spline. I will research that and get back to you.

I may take a few weeks before i purchase it in order to make sure i have the cash to work out any bugs i may come across during the swap.

but having a set price in mind will help me setting aside the correct amount in the piggy bank

Do you need the model for the FJ's or HJ's. I think the FJ's are all 10 spline and the HJ's were fine spline input, correct?

If you get it from Sparks for $2169, I don't think you pay shipping. Just sales tax. However, with the tax, and the extra parts you need you will be at $2600 anyway. Probably better to just get Cruiserparts to send it to your commercial doorstep.

Jeremy

If i'm not mistaken the HJ's came with the 2H and the 2H takes the same spline as the 2F. For that matter the 12HT takes the same spline as the 2F and the 2H.

The 3B, B and 13BT are the odd balls with the same tranny but fine spline input shaft. I think some of the HJ's also came with the 3B.

What sucks is after i purchase all this stuff a good 13bt with h55 tranny comes avaliable for 6K obo with all 24v accessories.

Oh well...atleast i can get parts locally with my 4bd1t

I think your right, I think the HJ model I am thinking about is actually the HZJ H55F that was used in the 80 and 70 series' after 1990. Basically you have a pre-90 course spline unit, and a post 90 fine spline unit. Sound right?

Either way, I won't worry with figuring out the proper part number as it looks CP's is the way to go. I may have brother get a price on both units just for future reference.

Jeremy

thanks, i am sure that i'll go with CP.

Gotta stash some cash where the wife cant find it! Got my refund on the other tranny today so that means i'm over half way there.

In the mean time i'll go ahead and tear down my extra transfer case and see what it will need to rebuild/if it needs a rebuild.

Im hoping that with 33" tires and my 3.70 stock gears i can cruise at 60-65 at 2500-2750 for now.

Put up an add in craigslist to see about trading my brand new 31x10.5 KM2's for some 33's

As soon as the IDS and last of the AA parts arrive i'll be ready to start installing

still need to make a custom mount bracket for the AC

need to go by LKQ to get a power steering pump resevrior

have to find some place that has the bolts that bolt the pressure plate to a pre 86 sbc flywheel.

Will need to get my dual flywheel set up ballanced

need to get my brake lines removed and taken to cline to get them made about 5 inches longer

Need to get my rear springs beefed up, install the front HFS shackles, body lift installed.

Will have to purchase castor shims and some new U bolts for the rear end.

also need to go ahead and work out my wireing for the heated fuel filter assy, starter, glow plug relay, electric fan system and once it's installed get custom power steering hoses made.

have all the pipes to connect my down pipe/flex pipe.

today i got my manifold drilled/tapped and installed the probe for the EGT gauge

installed the temp sensor for the electric fan and mounted the controll/relay box

drilled the flywheel for pick ups for ABS sensor to use as a tach. Also got the abs sensor installed.

Installed new push rod inspection plate gaskets (the old ones looked leaky)

my isuzu engine came from a rusted out bread truck in cheese country.

Had to remove/clean/repaint oil pan. Replaced all bottom end seals/gaskets/rear main seal.

removed flywheel to mount the SBC adapter to run the dual flyweel set up. That should be done this week so i can take it to be ballanced and the SBC flywheel lightened as much as possible. Hope to shed about 10-20 lbs.

FINALLY found a ranger overdrive to replace the h55 i was org. planning on using. These things are not avaliable through AA until late Dec. The guy has it pulled and is getting a shipping quote from Florida for me hopefully today. Might have it as early as next week.

Got all my AA SBC to H55 adapters/clutch/pp/tb junk sold to pay for it.

The shop next door is giving me a SBC bellhousing (if they can find it)

If not i need one.

I still need some motor mounts, looking for some biscuit style motor mounts. They need to be straight up and down shaped rather than the angled that SBC and our cruisers use. Makes for an easier modded mount than the angled stuff, i'm not the best fabricator in the world.

Still trying to do the body lift before i tear out the 2F so i can get it done at the shop. Been too busy to work it in.

Got to replace the front tranny seal sometime this week, starting to drip a few drops of gear oil, smells awful in the cab.

The wife having so many dr appointments and only one useable arm is going to slow me down a few months on how much time i have to dedicate to the swap. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks i will have all the parts I need to get it done.

so far all the parts i lack

motor mounts
bell housing
power steering pump resevrior
clutch/pp/tb
front seal for ranger OD

are all easy to get, just been putting them off until i finally found a ranger OD.

Once it's here and in my hands i'll get the last few parts and get this project underway.

not to speedbump your plans, but custyota in Havelock NC might have a Ranger still if your Florida boy falls through. Not sure on price, but probably a decent one.

custyota was one of the first people i got ahold of when i started searching, he sold it before i could get it.

Just let me know when you get it out...I'll come up and get it. (The 2F, that is)
May be doing a mudship at the same time.

The ranger overdrive came in yesterday. All it needs is a new rear seal. Have one on order and should be here today or tom morning.

All i lack is a bell housing and clutch kit at this point.

Will hopefully have all parts in next week to start the project. Will try to start doing the body lift today or monday, just depends on how busy the shop is. I think i'm going to do the swap between jobs at the shop and get it knocked out in 2-3 days.

The plan is to have the engine out and new engine in by Nov 15th (hopefully much sooner than that)

get good at the body lift. I want one

the body lift is very easy unless your crap is rusted.

biggest issue is mods to the fan shroud, i'm ditching the clutch fan for an electric fan and with the cooler weather i just removed the shroud for now since on these cool days and not using AC i should not have over heating issues.

I'm lucky that my undercarridge is clean

without rust and a trip to the hardware store it took about 4 hrs total for the body lift TOPS. I had the aid of a forlift/impact an on occasion an extra set of hands.

got the center of the fuel filler neck taken out so the diesel pump will fit.

my engine mount kit came in today.

Clutch/pp/tb/pilot bearing on order.

My power steering pump res. should be in later this week.

I should have my bell housing tomorrow.

As soon as my dad is done mating my isuzu flywheel to the adapter hub (drilling/tapping) all i need to do before the install is get the flywheel assy balanced.

Might have to put the 2.5 over shackles in the front of the vehicle for clearance issues. If i do that i will have to purchase/install caster correction shims.

I pretty much have everything i need for the swap in boxes waiting to go.

Hope to be able to do the install next mon-wed. If the boss won't give me the time off to do it i'll do it here at the shop.
