They are weldable, but I have yet to find someone local capable. If I still had a TIG I would jump on it in a heart beat. Stopped by and talked to an old local welder he said no way it'll just crack. He said when he has welded them and they cool they crack. Well, I said you need to put in sand to cool slowly. He did not want to listen.

I have the PTO on mine also and want to stick with it stock.

93' Locked how much?

I have some extra cash saved up and I want to get a cruiser with lockers I'm looking to sell the FJ80 and get a 93 or above. How much am I looking at for a 93' with lockers with around 120k miles? 6k?

Thanks,
Nick

Idaho

I have used Nickle rod in the past with great results. I just need a TIG unit.

I guess I could stick weld it if I had a stick welder.

Help me please..................................

depends on where you live and how clean it is.
In CA, $6k seems a little low -- more like $10-11k here, but prices vary by region.

Nick, in our neck of the woods, a nice one will typically run 7500.00 to 9000.00 for a 93/94 if you find an individual selling (car lots will be higher).

Just bought a 93 w/ lockers, leather, etc... in Chicago around May. $8k. 140k miles. Couple of issues I had to sort out, didn't know about them until AFTER the purchase, front axle job, lights are all ghetto rigged, and needed all fluids changed.

$8k was too much, but the lockers are sooooooooo nice.

Sometimes you can successfully weld the cracks, and sometimes not. I've had a couple successfully welded and have held up nicely. Outback (Jody P.) gave me a manifold he took of his 72 FJ40 that had been cracked, and brazed up, but was cracked again where the brazing was done. I took it to one of the best local welders I know, and after grinding out the braze material, he tried it with a mig, a tig, and arc, and was unsuccessful on getting the weld to hold. He said sometimes that's what happens with some cast iron, as the quality varies of the iron.

FWIW, you can still buy (at least as of last year) brand new manifolds from Toyota. They come with the flapper and counterweight, but don't have the heatriser coil or coil cover. SOR sells aftermarket heatriser coils. I have one brand new in the box, mated to reworked intake. I think I'll order another before they get discontinued.

Dgangle,

I've got your goods, but I'm in southern Colorado which is a long way from Bama, so shipping could get nasty? I'll check on that if your interested:

2-Aisin Hubs off 79-85 Mini....I'll even clean em up and paint them...$75 pair
2-79-85 Birf's in good shape...$75 pair (mine are 9 1/2 inch long by 30 spline)

That's $150 for everything, but if you want everything I'll get it to you for $135, you pay shipping, and I can get you and estimate on that....let me know.

I also have the short and long side inner axles from a 83 mini.....

Cheers,

Scott

Sold my 91 last Feb for $8500. Granted it was super clean with 115k miles. Depending on the condition you should get more than $5k. Certainly not from anyone here though. Put an add in the paper, it'll sell. Mine sold in less than a week.

Look at my recent posts.95LC,lockers,paid 6200$,just finished the inspection at Toyota today, needed 4 light bulbs...and oil change, thats it!,not even the Toyota dealer could not find anything to take my money.

93-94s are running 7500-9500 in Idaho still. There is a 91 in our paper this week for 4k. That is the lowest 80 I've ever seen. There was a super clean 91 a few weeks ago at a dealer with 138k and it sold for 5500. You're at a point where you have to bite the bullet. As the FZJ prices drop FJ prices will drop even lower. So selling an FJ high and buying FZJ80 low isn't probably going to happen very easily.

Good point. My body is in rough cond. I've had the repack and all the axle seals changed last July. I've gotten the valves redone, oil changes have been done regularly, front driveshaft was replaced. The truck runs well.

Haha. We're getting out of the wanted and into tech here, but oh, well. My brother shares shop space with a professional welder in NYC. He directed me to this site, which claims

CAST IRON CAN BE WELDED!!! Without preheating, without special cooling, without recracking. Don't be afraid of cast iron!! Save those expensive parts: cast iron exhaust manifolds, cast iron engine blocks, Caterpillar parts, pump housings, tools and lots more. Ideal for heavy machinery, trucking, bus lines, automotive, marine, and RVs.

When I get to it, I am going to try it on my cracked F block where the waterjacket is leaking slightly still. It seems like just the ticket for this stuff.

sniper I have a intake/exhaust setup. doesn't look like its cracked, where am I to look? heat riser works.
