FJ60 Emergency/Parking Brake Light Issue

For some reason, the parking brake light comes on in my 60 when I am cornering and then turns back off. Obviously, the brake is not engaged. Any thoughts on what could cause this? Loose sensor somewhere?

My guess is the brake fluid level Try and keep the cruiser on all 4 wheels when you corner.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I thought the e-brake was purely cable-driven and did not use the fluid that the rear brakes use? Could the light mean that the normal brake fluid is low?

your brake light will come on when your brake fluid reservoir is too low. theres a sensor in there....

I drove around all summer with this dumb light on, and it wasn't till one of my club buddies mentioned it to me that I even thought of it. Norris even bought me a can of brake fluid so I could fill it during our lunch break. Norris!

What brake fluid are you guys running?

Whatever it says on the top cover DOT3 I believe. The brand doesn't really matter as long is it is a major brand.

Just don't use DOT 5, it's made of something different and it won't mix with what you have. DOT 3 and 4 are compatible.

Just to close the loop on this issue for future searches, I was a little low on brake fluid, added some Dot 3, and she's all fixed. No more brake light...

It should not make the light go on if it is unplugged.

I checked my brake fluid reservoir today, and it was empty. The brake light never came on. Any idea why this is..? It comes on when I use the ebrake.

There is a sensor on the lid of the reservoir ...check that!

The float goes up and down easily, and the wires coming out of the cap are indeed connected to a wiring harness. Could the whole float assembly be bad.? Is it a fuse issue possibly..?

Could be a fuse. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. If your reservoir was empty that would cause more concern.

Oh, my front calipers have a leak…it would have been nice for the light/alarm to have gone off to alert me to the low fluid.
