I believe most on this forum that would respond will tell you not to put the FJ62 Auto in either FJ60. That auto is a power hungry beast that will suck the life out of your truck.

It is up to you to do what you want but I have a fj62 and my next upgrade when I come up with the money is the 5 speed conversion. That being said if you were closer and wanted to do the swap we could take the parts from one and put in the other.

The hp I added to my 85 by doing the desmog should make up the difference. Im willing to loose a little power, it's for my wife, and I cant afford a chev 350 swap

that would be nice, planning a trip to az any time soon?haha

No, I wonder if a T400 can be mated to the 2F block and to the Toyota t-case. T400's are cheap and reliable. I bet it can be done pretty easy and pretty in-expensive.

I think it would be a better fit for your tall diff. gears.

Not with the adapters currently available.

Yes it can be done. If you have access to a machine shop to build the necessary adapters..

We once upon a time built an adapter for 700R4 behind a F/2F engine, but never put the product onto the market for following reasons:
(a) Conversion way too long for an FJ40, FJ45/60 would have had a long enough rear drive shaft. Can't move 6 cyl. forward, and length of tranny and transfer-case adapter meant no rear drive shaft on an FJ40.
(b) Needs kick-down cable attached to carb., ours was not a problem because we were running GM throttle body.
(c) Had starter problem we could not solve. Chewed up something like 6 starters, even after remachining, custom GM installation/shimming, etc. etc...we simply could not solve a problem that we could not identify???????

The starter was not positioned correctly ;)

Desmog for Tucson

Kinda wondering how you got to remove the smog stuff - out of the metro area? Or if there is some other way to get out of having the equipment installed. Would *love* to remove that junk from my 84.

Does anybody have an answer to this guys question? I think it would bolt up, but I don't know if the crossmembers would need to be moved or modified (I assume they would, but I don't knnow nuttin')

I believe that it would need a different cross member, a way to have a kick down cable, different t-case, maybe a different set of drive shafts. And if it is a setup that is worn bad enough (I'm pretty sure they all are by now), a McNamara gear.

I apologize for the hi-jacking I caused.

I have a spare A440F in Ca. if you're looking but it seems enough guys want to swap for your manual I doubt you will have that problem.

Ok....back to the 62 tranny. Will it bolt right into my 85, or do I need to modify my cross-member

I can't imagine it will be any kind of direct hookup. I am in the process of using an '88 FJ62 frame for my 60 resto and the big stumbling block (mostly because of too much worky and not enough wrenchy) is to cut off the crossmember brackets and move the whole mess forward.

the auto tranny will not bolt right up. the crosss memeber onthe 60 will have to be moved back, and it will also need a different cross member and different length driveshafts. iwill also need a 62 radiator and lines to run the tranny cooler. the 62 tcase is vacumm setup meaning you will need the 4wd solenoid and the vacum lines.

You'd be better off selling a 60 & buying a 62. Cheaper, quicker, way less hassle.
