I have a previous owner installed power steering conversion on my 72 FJ55. The PO did a shackle reversal, double shocks, body lift, Fj60 front axle swap at the same time.

The problem is that I have a serious leak in my power steering gear, and no idea what type of gear it is. Here is a picture.

Can anyone help me out?

The gear has 31600 on the back side, a 7Y2, OK, and N25 on the back side. I have heard several guesses, with the two best being that it is a nissan truck steering gear, or an FJ60 steering gear that has been reversed.

Thanks

PS-- I hope that site works, it was my first attempt at making something and putting up pictures.

99% sure it's not fj60 or anything Toyota. Other then that......I would guess something American.

I have seen those fitting before, 99 percent sure they are Japanese, Nissan, Mazda,Mitsi all use the outside frame mounted gearbox with a rearward pitman arm like this.
Are ya' registered on the Pirate board?
Gen 4x4 might be a good place to ask and get out of the Cruiser specialists.

Thanks Butch, I appreciate the cross post. We get this on enough lists, and we are sure to find a steering box guru. :D

BTW, I know you are the rams horn exhaust guru. I having been planning on contacting you to get all the details on what type of rams horn will work with the stock cross over you recommend.

I bought a set from a lister, but when they arived they had outputs that curved back toward the firewall-- not straight down. I did not know such things existed or I would have asked before I bought them.

In any event, I don't think they will work :(

I see sets on ebay all the time, but I am never sure if they will work either.

Anyway, thanks again for the cross post

It looks just like the one Classic Cruisers uses on thier FJ55 P/S setup. Look at Classiccuisers.Com under conversions. HTH

Yeah-- I think so. According to some lenghty Pirate threads, it is a two inch exhaust that you need-- I think there are some 2.5 inch ones out there--but I don't know if there is a stock cross-over for them. I am also not sure about those mounting brackets that appear to be on some of manifolds. And I am also about injection ports-- some seem to have them, others don't.

I have seen sets go on ebay for around 25 dollars a pair. They may have been the wrong ones though.
