My buddy just scored a 76 FJ55 with a 350 and 700R4 for the lowly sum of $2200. It has alot of rust on the body but the floors are VERY good and the Frame is PERFECT although a little muddy.

Plans include a spring over and power steering along with some body mod (Integrated sliders and what not) and an in cab cage.

Looking at the rigs setup (I own a 40 and a 62 so I am not very familiar with the 55) It appears that Saginaw P/S is overly complicated, I want to eliminate the push pull type steering and go to an FJ60 type setup.

I am looking for advice on what is needed (What needs to be moved, what type of plate should I use to reinforce the frame, what pump should I use).

The rig includes a Saginaw pump and bracket, can I use this on a Toyota Box?

BTW, the Rig apparently includes extra glass all around and 4 Rear doors on top of the one that are on there.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan Tubbs

Since you already have a saginaw PS pump/bracket, why not just do a Scout box? Mounts in basically the same place as the 60 box does (right in front of the drivers' side shock mount).

I'm also pretty sure that you can get a hi-pressure hose made that will fit from the Sag pump to the 60 box. I don't know of a stock application that will work for this hose from a Sag pump to a 60 box. Scout box is a Sag anyway so that's easy...

I welded a 1/4" plate on the inside of the frame rail where the bolts go thru to mount the box. Just make sure that you test the pitman arm with a tie-rod end mounted in it for clearance under the frame before you start bolting stuff on.

For a steering shaft, you can fab something up out of bits & pieces of a 55 and/or 60 shaft or look at something from Borgeson or Flaming-River, which is what I did to mate my Scout box to the upper portion of the 55 slip-shaft.

While you're messing around with PS, you probably want to do hi-steer conversion too.

Any chance that you'd want to get rid of one of the extra rear tailgates?

I am not sure if he has tailgates or rear doors.

Can I get a Scout Box from the parts store still? Not many in Junk yards around here.

Scout box it seems it may be.

Dude,
I looked around, Scout box seemed to be the way. Bought one over the counter at Napa. BIG core charge. Gave them back the box off a grand cherokee (where I got my pitman arm). No problem.

130 loves the Taurus, and can go from concealment to double tap in 1.1 seconds!

SAKE! SAKE! SAKE!

There are no Ford 9 inch, 28 spline, small bearing, rear passenger side axle shafts in all of Fruita (according to Latasha) or Grand Junction Colorado!

I'm Rick James bitch!

Welcome aboard buddy.

Dan was just telling me about your rig... We are gonna be doing the Scout PS as soon as we track down all the parts. Find two good used boxes for us... :D

Any more Suggestions, pictures maybe.
