Here are some of the pictures I saw when I bought my 55 in september of 04. Not much has been done to it other than taking most of the interior out and I have started to cut the rusty sections out.

now for the close up shots, minus some bondo and paint. There was expanding foam visable from the floor and parts of the rockers once I started to remove this foam I relized the po used this as a "body shaper". I finaly got a big section to come out and the first foot of the rocker came with it. Turns out the foam was shot in and shaped like the rocker covered with some bondo and painted.

Here are some other general pictures. Now that I have thought about it I am thinking I might just get some 2x3 .090 square tube and use that as my new rocker/slider what do any of you think about the look and the material of that idea?

hss4x4x3/16 works great for a rocker......put an angle to match the fender opening on each end and you're all set....

When you do this, do you also weld the tube to the fender?

A more expensive option are the rockers that lance at ironpigoffroad.com puts out. They are freaking sweet, but each run seems to sell very quick.

I was going to shape the front fender to match I want to have the door and fender lines flow down to the bottom of the pig. I have seen the stamped ones that iron pig sells and had planed on using them but with money and time the way it is right now I think I need to go this route for now.

You have more drivers floor then I did, and I didnt have any of the rail at the bottom front drivers door. I ended up cutting out all that was left of that rail and inserting a 2x4 piece of tube steel. Go look at my pic in that thread and you can see the tube steel I'm referring to.

I see an awefull lot of that expanding foam used in canadian vehicles I buy and bring back into the States. Must have been a 70's thing... not sure.... but you know that crap sucks in moister and holds it like an evil sponge. Next thing you know thats all that is left is the foam with what used to be metal around it. Eats thru frames and subframe vehicles like a hot knive going thru butter.

yeah I think the foam has caused a lot of damage that wouldn't have been there otherwise. It is everywhere too in the roof in the front a pillars some of the drivers front fender. If I don't get it all I might end up with some nasty fire flares while welding the patches in.

I looked at a picture of yours bkfj and your right it looks good do you have any pictures with the door open looking at the sill? Did you weld the fender to the rocker or does it have a seem to match the doors?

Ahhh rust.

It makes me feel sad, happy, and guilty at the same time to see other piggies that are suffering from rust/cancer. Thanks for sharing the nasty pics-keep us posted on your progress. It may help inspire some of the rest of us (like me!) to take care of the evil rot destroying our beloved pigs. I have some rocker and lower front fender rust/rot and have been toying with the idea of cutting the lower fenders and rockers out and trimming the rear panels some. I just have to borrow all the tools and find some help and figure it out...

I went to my old high school the other day and talked to the shop teacher and asked if he would be in at all in the summer or on weekends, if I could come in and bend some sheet metal for panels. He was happy to let me do it but, I am kinda at the mercy of his schedual he will call me the night before and let me come in on a Sunday. I hope it is sooner than later. I got some 2x3 .120 wall tubing for the rocker panels and some 16 gauge sheet for the floor and body mounts. The 2x3 should be hi enough that if I do come down ona rock the frame might hit first and not ding up my new body work to much and the fact that its square tube it will be easier to fix in the future and still look good.

oh yeah, I manged to break the windshield last night are they easy to come by?

I feel for your HS shop teacher. Must have been two dozen people trying to get me to commit to time during the summer when I would come in. Once in a while is no big deal, but everybody expects you to come in and work on their junk. Teachers, custodians, current students, past students, everybody. If you go in there during his summer, you oughtta at least bring beer for him to take home.

Well the old shop teacher does copper fountians on the side and does that all summer. He will go to art shows with a few samples then people order custom fountains to fit thier taste/needs as of a week ago he had over 12 that need to be completed so I don't feel to bad, he won't be there for me alone plus he will be making some cash.

well I got a little work done this last week some of it I have pictures of and some I don't I was wondering if anyone has had any luck repairing the door jams mine has quite a but of rot in the pass door up front any suggestions?
