Another DIY. 1977 FJ40. Drove in to work truck running perfect. Went to go to lunch and the truck would not idle. Had to choke it to keep it running. Engine fuse was blown. The engine fuse is in the circuit supplying power to the fuel cut solenoid on the carb. With the fuel cut solenoid not energize the idle circuit was blocked off. Also after I realized the blown fuse it dawned on me that also the amp gauge was showing discharge. Voltage regulator is also fed by the same fuse. 15 amp fuse was the fix.
