Replacing stock radiator for stock engine.

Do I go with a new 3-row or a 4-row for $16 more?

Any fitment issues with the 4-row or any downsides to going with the 4-row?

Welcome to Mud:flipoff2:. Having gotten the official greeting out of the way, which "stock" engine are you running? Different year 40s came stock with different engines, on the gasser side there was the F, the 1.5 F and the 2F. On the diesel side there was the B and then the 3B. My general rule has been the more cooling capacity the better. I went with a brass 4 core when I upgraded. I like the aluminum stuff but if a rock goes through it out in the woods not every shop has the gear to weld up an aluminum rad. That's why I went with brass. Just my .02.

Hah! Thanks! Yep I'm definitely new. I've always had my '71 Land Rover. Finally broke into the FJ40 scene so I'm learning. Radiator is leaking out so replacing with something better. I'll just go with the 4 core. Crossing my fingers that the fitment is the same. Engine is the gas 2F if I recall.

I went with a brass 4 core from Spector. :flipoff2:

Yes. Sometimes, your core will conflict with your blades. More cores makes it more likely.

Thanks guys! I went with the 4-core....runs super cool now.
I know its old post but which radiator you got? Brass or aluminum? Do you have AC? I switched to 3 row aluminum and in a very hot summer day with ac on the engine warm up to 230....when ac off it runs around 200...depends also on speed and mountain drive...
