I have a 1972 FJ40 and am looking for missing parts for my hood. However, I'm not sure what parts I need as I bought the FJ40 as is without the accessories on the hood.

I've attached a picture of my actual hood and have added red-arrows that point to the existing holes that I'm looking for parts for.

Can you decipher (based on the holes in the picture) which parts are missing? Extra bonus if you can send me links to vendors that sell the parts :)

Hole in the center is for the windshield washer nozzle. The two holes on each side closet to the windshield are for the pads the windshield rests on when folded down. The other tow are for the hold down clamps for the windshield.

As was mentioned by previous posters. This is the early style hood before the facelift in '75.

There are a lot of good vendors. I've been a big fan since I've had my 'Cruiser of Spector Off Road (Specter Off-Road, Inc. Land Cruiser Parts and Accessories). You can get parts cheaper, but they have everything from OEM Toyota to aftermarket. The biggest thing I like is that they have pictures of the actual Toyota microfiche parts diagrams, so from the pictures you can figure things out (even to the point of seeing if you need a washer to go with a certain bolt). For most parts, especially stock, I don't mind paying a little bit of a premium, if any, for the convience of being able to click on a parts diagram to get the exact part (down to nuts and bolts) that I need.

Interstingly, this diagram would really only help you with the hooks. THe bumpers are listed to the side, but not shown on the actual picture, nor is the washer nozzle. Normally they show you everything. It is a really good reference online, and I use the paper catalog when working on things to figure out where everything goes (about 9 years into a frame-off and it is hard to remember what I removed that long ago....)

What do you mean early style hood? In 72 they went to the one piece hood as shown in the picture. 71 and earlier had a split hood with a chrome hood spear at the front...which is not in the picture. His hood is correct for his year fj40.
Example below, my red 71 with correct hood, my brothers 67 with 72+ hood. Now you can see the parts you are missing :)

His hood is the right one. I just referred to the point that in '75 Toyota changed the hooks and windshield rests. My mistake as I didn't payed attention that earlier Cruisers had different as well.

pre65/66 hardtop cruisers came with no windshield latches or pads or pockets for the latches...just an FYI :)

Oh...just got schooled ;)

This forum is an encyclopedia of LC information. I learn something new just about everyday.

Thanks guys!

Also note that the '71 and earlier hoods have different size hood pads from the '72 and later hoods.
The previous owner of my '73 drilled extra holes to fit the wrong year pads on the hood.

The E-67 had a short pad. 68 had a taller pad. 69-74 was a mix of short and tall. Seen them mounted with the tall front and back. Cruisers I bought over the years tall was in the back.

I have a 1971 hood with the crest hood ornament (split hood) and have two holes that I always thought were for washer fluid nozzles but they seem slightly over-sized. Any ideas? They are between the hood hinges and the windshield frame bumpers.

Those are where the washer nozzles go. Original style has been gone for as long as I can remember. What I got as a replacement were all gray plastic. Original were chrome that were seated in where piece which I'm not sure what it was made out of. To my knowledge 9/67 was when the washer became standard on all US models. When the one piece hood started it switched to a single nozzle that has two spray nozzles. Here is where the nozzle located on a 70 FJ40.

I’m loving this Brain Trust. That’s exactly what I was hoping to read. I think I have those nozzles in the garage somewhere.
