I just finished my wireing and everything seems to work but my headlight switch is working backwards, 1st click out the headlights come on, 2nd click the running lights come on and the headlight stay on. I'm using the original wireing harness but the original switch was distroyed when my cruiser got totaled so I used the headlight switch from my 78 and it pluged right in. My question is was there a differance between the 74 and 78 headlight switchs or do I have something else going on. I know I can switch the 2 wires out of the switch but WTF?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, "yeah. They're different."

my 76 does the same thing, i tried another switch from a 76 and they stayed on all the time so i went back to the original swicth. i cant figure it out either. so i think i am going to try switching the wires. i have another harness if i mess this one up.

anyone have a clue ? or ideas of what to look for ?

sorry if i hijacked ! but i am curious too!

Ok I fixed it.
Lonegunman pull your switch and pull the wire connection. If you use a tester you'll see that the 2 outside bottom pins are hot. The 2 outside top pins are the ones you need to switch. If you slide a small strip of sheetmetal next to the pin it will release the pin and you can swap them and plug it back in. Should work the way it's suppose to.

thanks, i will try it.
