I used PPG Omni single stage AU 33219

Thanks Roger. Is this a non-metallic paint? How well does it match the original color. Looks great in the pic!

I had the original glove box with the shift plate instructions on it, so I took the plate off and the paint store matched the color under the plate. It is non metallic-matched the color really good

Thanks Roger! There's a guy here that mixed a pint of PPG paint for me last week for the 66 67 Chevelle gauge housings. I'll take the number you provided to him.
Thanks again!

Wanted to share a couple of new items we have available. Restoration of the FJ47 tach, and international markings for the gauge bezel. Also available is a new pkg that includes 160 Km/h marknigs for the speedo, and newer style small gauge markings with 50 Amp. Should have pics of the newest package later this week.
Thanks again for all of the input and interest!

Suscribed.

We are lucky to have someone interested in doing work for our rather small community of LandCruiser owners. Thank you, and your work/product looks outstanding.

John

Thank you for your support John. Gauge restoration is just one of those quirky things that I have a passion for. We also do complete gauge restoration, calibration, and repair for Camaro, Trans Am, Chevelle, Monte Carlo, and El Camino. I'm very thankful to have been invited to be a part of this community!

Several people have inquired about additional options for the FJ40 gauge restoration packages. This is the latest artwork that includes Km/h and 50 AMP gauge. The KM/h markings can also be interchanged with the earlier package.

This particular set belongs to a 'MUD member that preferred the faces painted white with black markings to match the Auto Meter clock. Final assembly will be done later this week. Pics will follow. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks again for your interest in gauge marks.

There have been several inquiries from customers (especially in Australia and New Zealand) about availability of 160 K/mh markings. The k/mh markings are a direct retrofit for a 100 MPH speedometer without recalibration. Likewise, 160 k/mh speedometers can be retrofitted with 100 MPH markings.
Thanks again for your interest!

In Canada we're also using km/h...

In Europe and Central America too.
There is a big market outside the USA.

Right! I mentioned Australia and New Zealand because I have shipped several packages to customers there. As far as I know the USA is the only country that doesn't use the metric system. I'm very happy and willing to ship worldwide!
Thanks again,
Daniel

The Imperial system also used in UK, Ireland and partially Hong Kong and Malaysia. Canada and Australia has mixed system, when length measures in inches and foots, but distance in kilometers; weight in ponds and kilograms.

Would you consider making a vinyl speedo overlay with markings applied? In this case you don't need to remove the needle, then the gauge from the cluster, paint, etc. this would of be great option for quick and easy change.

Good question! There are companies producing full face overlays; however, there are a few issues with doing it that way.
  • The speedometer face has in inset that wouldn't allow a full face transfer to be applied.
  • When using a full face overlay it is very easy to get air trapped under the material which causes bubbling.
  • Using liquids underneath the transfers makes them easier to apply, but I don't recommend using liquids. They can leak down into the gauges through the needle opening in the face.
These are just a few of the reasons that Gauge Marks has stayed away from the full face overlay products. We spent a full year in R&D before bringing our first set of markings for Camaro to market. We want to provide the absolute best product that we can offer. After restoring literally thousands of gauges, we prefer to stay with what has been proven to be an excellent product for us. With that said, I don't forsee us offering a full face overlay product for FJ40 or any other vehicle.

Thanks again for your interest!

This thread hasn't seen any activity for the past few months, but I appreciate all the customers! Most people are asking about in-house restorations. Yes, we can restore your gauges in-house. If you need any information regarding these packages or in-house restoration please feel free to contact me.
Thank you!
Daniel

PS: We also offer complete gauge restoration, calibration, and repair for:

  • 70-81 Camaro (all models)
  • 70-79 Trans Am
  • 66-67 Chevelle and El Camino
  • 71-77 Chevelle, Monte Carlo, and El Camino
If you have any interest at all in the new officially licensed Trans Am, take a few mins to watch this video. The cars are built by Trans Am Depot, and are designed by Kevin Morgan. Gauge Marks does all of the instrument cluster conversions for these cars.
Thanks again!
