Good morning. I am new to HDC, and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. I own a 1976 FJ40 with a 350 Chevy. The motor is good so we have removed the tub, and will now start putting it back together. It is a family project with my daughter & son inlay; and our goal is a good, solid dependable FJ40 for highway and off road.

1. For the frame we want to replace any rubber brake lines with braided steel lines; any suggestions?
2. It has disc brakes on the front and we want to replace the rear drum brakes with discs; any suggestions here?
3. Stock transmission versus replacing it with an automatic trans; thoughts or suggestions?
4. Bodywork; any suggestions on a local shop for bodywork and paint?

Enough for now. I'll have quite a few more questions though. Thanks, Terry

I have a buddy that's not on here that has a FJ40 rear axle housing with discs already on it. I can give you his # if you are interested.

1>Personally, I would replace with Toyota rubber. I might have a source for braided.
2>Contact Poser here at MUD for the bracket. There were a bunch of tech articles on the subject on the old site. I'm not sure how many made it over to the new site. You use a Chevy 1/2 ton pickup rotor, and a Monte Carlo caliper. You also need to have the rotor machined to fit the Toyota axle. I have copies of the tech articles ... on paper.
3>Autos are usually very long.
4>R and C did my work. CruiserDan also has a favorite shop or two.
