Hello everyone Guys, Gals and others,
My 40 had no parking brake at all when I got it but I do have the floor mounted Parking Brake Assembly such as the lever, mounting brackets, cables etc. My old T-case only had 1/2 a drum on it but the one I just installed has the whole thing. Does anyone have any photos showing the location of this lever? I looked on Spector but just Schemtics and things, no location. Any help would be greatly appreciated as of now I am using a block of wood on inclines and my wife does not like pulling a chunk of wood in front of a store haa haa!. This is an older tub so there is no patch where it used to be. Not a purist I just need function.
Thanks and Take care,

Rob:wrench:

After I posted I found these online. Should be close enough as long as my cable reaches. Thanks anyway:hillbilly:

Okay now I frustrated, I found the location but can find nothing showing how it hooks up to everything. I am sure I can make it work but I would like for it to be correct. Any pics or diagrams guys? Girls?

I believe the floor mount E brake connects to the rear axle. I used an FJ 62 rear axle. I have the same year split case.

I see the 1/79 -8/80 had it attached to the tcase. Might have to get that year e brake set up.

Until 8/80, the floor mounted lever connects to the x-fer case mounted parking brake. After that, it connects to the rear-axle-mounted parking brake. The parking brake parts are the same from the mid-70s, to the 8/80 cutoff, with the exception being that the parking brake cable is shorter (considerably) for the floor-mounted brake handle, versus the under-dash-mounted handle. Study the SOR diagrams and/or try to find some other trucks to look at.

I contacted Spector awhile back about the axles an they said the same thing; 1980 the axle went to and e-brake. Problem I am encountering is all 40's here are in use still so not many parts trucks. However, I did find a thread on here where a floor mount was installed just left of the driver's seat using the same hardware with an x case e brake. Reminds me of when I flew helicopters back in the day ha ha. I may try that route. Thanks for the input.

My wife vetoed the block of wood with a rope long enough to reel it in once we're going.

Now thats a thought. I wonder if I could talk her into using a fishing rod and reel then she could learn to cast it right to the tire hmmmmm? lol!

I have a 75 body mounted on a 79 frame. I was able to fabricate a mount to utilize the 79 parking brake assembly between the front seats. I am also running an sm 465 tranny which pushes the transfer rearward. The e brake cable was just long enough to make it work.

Ahh okay, Mine is a 73 body on a 78 frame but still running a original 3 speed because these Asia truck kept the 3 speed up until the late 70's so I should not really have much of an issue.
Thanks,

Rob
