Holy crap! 6 years ago I had my alternator rebuilt buy a small Canadian alternator shop in British Columbia. If I correct it cost me $450 Canadian. That's the thing I don't like about Canada is everything was just so flipping expensive. My truck is parked right now because it needs a frame. 2 parts availability for 3B is almost unheard of in the United States. I would love to rebuild it. Get a new frame I just wish to God I had a shop but real estate here in western Washington is just flipping insane. Having a spare alternator is a good idea so you might want to sell a spare alternator to these guys and say hey just take the alternator wrap it in styrofoam or put it in a little box and pour Liquid Star foam. If it doesn't fit in the wheel well that would be a great place to put it as a spare in case the primary does fail while the truck is on the road or Trail.

How hard would it be to build a second bracket system and have a second alternator ready to go in case the primary fails in the field or in the backcountry? I'm not sure how long a alternator could last if it's not online and it just is spun by the belt? But yeah and alternator and starter are the top leading failures of any vehicle and I'll leave you stranded. Having a spare mounted on the engine or sitting inside the vehicle is a very smart idea.

Do you have access to the vacuum pump parts to fix that half of a BJ60 alternator?
Yeah that's the way mine is and that's reason why I don't drive my truck. I can't afford the breakdown. Parts are very rare to find in the United States and that's what makes me nervous. Eventually or if I ever do I might just sell the truck as is. The cost to repair is probably more prohibitive. Last time I think I had my Alternator Rebuild it cost me $450 CDN.
