I'll chime in here on some tubs, I can vouch for Gozzards fibreglass tubs ! What you should know about Gozzard tubs and why in my opinion they are the best of any fibreglass tub. Mike builds high end fibreglass boats for a living and landcruiser tubs are certainly not his bread and butter but just a little side line out of passion after falling in love one day with a LC that well ... was hardly metal after years of being in a salt province.
Aqualuu is pretty top notch and for those of us not fans of rusty carbon steel it is a very good option, weather you have a fibreglass, aluminum or Columbian steel LC it will still hold its value if kept well.
How about Stainless steel ? Seven in France was making a stainless tub up until a fire or something.
Then there is me ! Fitter welder by trade, back in 1995 I rebuild my 83bj42 out of stainless steel, all tig welded with a trunk. Of course there are no bed ribs or inner fender ribs but then again neither does the Aqaluu tub. I personally hate steel ! I've been going over my drawings lately double checking and seeing if there is an option to improve and add more value or something else of originality. I am looking into if there is a possibility of getting the panels stamped to have the ribs for look and strength, though 16ga stainless is not going to fault over the 18ga steel.
I have started a new post for my new acquisition, a 79 fj40 that will be rebuilt in Stainless Steel.
To a purest well any aftermarket tub will not do but to most who want to enjoy and still retain the value then the other options are just fine and Thank god we have options and people like Aqualuu, Gozzard, CCOT and the like.
The pics enclosed are not very detailed but are of my 1983bj42 recently but the build was done back in 1995 and still holding up just fine. Re-used the rail and post, inner fenders, outer 1/4, floor and rear channel & lower rockers. I'm looking forward to my second 1/4 tub with some improvements so stay tuned !

Just out of curiosity how does the stainless steel handle off-roading? I imagine it is fine, but I always thought it is more prone to cracking than carbon steel.

I have an Aqualu 3/4 tub and it flexes much less than my oem cowl. This has resulted in the A pillar cracking where it’s bolted to the aluminum tub. To be fair I repaired the A pillar rot when I last went to the frame and my repair is likely part of my issue. Still love the Aqualu product- tough as nails. Just something else to go back over…

Hardbodies is the vehicle body branch of Aqualu (which was originally a boat/pontoon manufacturing company). I know this because I’m the guy who asked his friend Todd if he could make a body for my rusty ‘76 FJ40 way back in 1991. You’re welcome.

Todd’s bodies are what ICON uses (I’ve helped with final finishing on a batch of bodies for them), and I think most agree, ICON makes amazing 40s.

If you are looking for an OEM look, I agree with the previous poster in that you might be better off buying a clean body off an original Toyota FJ. Having a company price out a scratch built steel body here in NA will likely be prohibitively expensive.
Pretty sure Todd got the idea from Fabtech
Todd still sells the double arm Fabtech had sold previously Fabtech of Kelowna made some cool s***e.

Cracking : Never had an issue, no cracks, the bj was my dd and off road / camping rig for about 10 years of activity and daily driving.

Well, since Todd and I have been friends since 1992, and I was actually THERE, I’ll stick to my version of it.
