New to FJ40s and the 2F engine. Trying to reassemble an engine torn apart by the PO. Engine is de-smogged with no AC--only pulleys are crank, water pump, and alternator. I'm trying to determine which side the alternator goes on (have seen it mounted on both driver and passenger sides in photos) and exactly where the bracket actually mounts (most engine bay shots are "top down" or the alternator mounting is hidden behind the radiator, fan, etc. Any help, especially photos, would be much appreciated. Engine is a 1982; fan has a clutch if that makes any difference. BTW--here is the bracket I have. Cheers
all.

You can put it wherever you want it, where are the wires that connect to the alt at now?

Which mounting bracket do you have?

My 74 has an engine from an 83 FJ60 in it, the wires for the alternator to the voltage regulator are located on the drivers side. Rather than hacking the wiring up I just installed the alternator on the lower drivers side.

This is the bracket I have. I don't have an alternator yet (its coming from CCOT) so there is no alternator wiring at this point. The coil/igniter, dizzy, etc. are currently wired (using that term loosely cause its a rat's nest of splices) on the passenger side. I'm going to do a painless harness as part of the build. From the pics I've seem the bracket like mine is bolted somewhere on the block just above the timing gear cover? Not sure, like I said in all the pics the actual mounting location is obscured.

Passenger side. Three bolts near front of head.

Rear hook goes on the driver's side, top of the head, aft. I don't have one installed, so I can't get a photo. I've always used an exhaust manifold bolt hole near the back of the engine. I have a hook, but I believe it uses two head bolts, so I have never used it.

Thanks, Brother!
