Hello all, I'm looking at an early (62) FJ40 that has door openings like the FJ25

I'm thinking about modifying some square doors to fit the openings, and have a roll down plastic/canvas upper

Anything like this ever done?

thanks for your time, Sean

This is a good thread on adapting a later soft top to an early FST like you may have...

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=108875

I have not seen hard doors made to fit and work well on a FST but I dont see why it couldn't be done, I have seen hard tops put on FST bodies with soft doors...

And........uhhh.......PICS!

Sean,
If you look at that thread you'll see that most of the work was on the lower half of the door. You wouldn't be able to use the factory latch, need to move up the bottom hinge, and cut a good amount off the bottom edge.

I'd think you would be better off bending some small diameter tube and making a hard bottom half out of that. I can't search for the threads now but try to find the original soft top door posts.................the original door isn't much more than a square tube frame.

these FJ25's over here are beautiful

I looked through your thread on the soft doors

It seems that those latches are going to be my biggest battle

I'll post some pictures when I get this rig back at my place

Or if you're lucky enough to have a 25HT, later model 40 soft doors will work perfectly, including the hardware.

Got these from ATC (formerly Kayline) right before they discontinued them and the color is an exact match with my older Kayline (FJ40) top.

Are you sure you guys want ot look at a Bezel?:)

I've finally got it to my house and will post some shots of it within a 1/2 hour.

Why not... we haven't seen any 25 update's from Fox we might as well look at a bezel :)

OK even with the time zone thingy, that's way more than a 1/2 hour. :D

sorry for the delay, a couple of fires popped up here at the ranch.

I'll post the rest tonite

Nice original 40!:D
Somewhere there is a thread of the original doors with all the dimensions that Mark A. had put together. Could be over on PBB. I can't look now but will later, if your going to make some they may as well look original.

The body is in great shape, only bummer is that it's original drivetrain is completely gone.

No motor, no tranny/transfer, different front and rear.

I'm thinking ugrade drivetrain with 78+, and retain body original. I'll be keeping it all Toyota no matter what.

I'm trying to negotiate with someone here on Mud about the doors.

He's posted up some pics in this forum with a recent 25 purchase.

I think his call name was snipo?

p.s. thanks I'm pretty excited and grateful I was even given the opportunity to purchase this vehicle.

At least you can buy yourself a gas cap (not the big style)! :D I'm always amazed when I see a Cruiser survive in that kind of shape. Leave it as-is and treat it to a new drivetrain.

Only three pics to a post unfortunately. ;)

In reading some of your post I was wondering if I was going to be stricken with the large gas cap

I remember seeing the 4 bolt pattern on my first visit to look at it but couldn't recall the cap size

any links to those dual lenses up front, the bodies are actually good, just missing the screw in lenses

You'll need to talk to John #1 (Living in the Past) on those, he inherited the double sided turn signal project. I think that makes two of you looking for those.

Nice dude! Chrome looks pretty clean on the bezel :)

Nice early cruiser for sure. THanks for posting pics

I was actually thinking of having that bezel powder coated, I'm not much for shiney things;p

thanks for the link to those doors
