It's been almost 13 years since I sold my '63 FST 40:(...miss it, but barely have time for the ones I still have. And its probably been about as long since I've ventured into this corner of mud.

I wonder where it is now? Hope the guy that bought it has given it some love.

I just mentioned in regular chat a day or two ago that it has become very obvious that MUD in general is currently a shadow of its former self. Times change, people change. A LOT of people have moved on. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Funnily enough, @HENDOG just sent me a picture from GSMTR yesterday of a 40 he was wheeling without a hardtop or rollbar. It triggered a memory from 2005, when I first met @Pighead brother, @FJnotCJ, one of THIS forum’s regulars, at Cruise Moab. He was not able to register for the event specifically because the 25 did not have a rollbar. While I understand the esthetic, I have a personal bias about that, having lost a dear friend almost exactly 21 years ago, after he rolled his 40 without a bar.😢

The price of admission has gotten so out of hand. 40s were never what I would call cheap, but they were affordable to most.
Now you see threads about paint chipping on the hood catches and here's the trophy I won at the latest cars and coffee show.

miss the days of “if you can pull it out of the field it’s yours”

Now it’s worth 7k in the field
I was telling @majdomo yesterday that the front axle I am currently rebuilding for my 65swb45 came to me as a rebuilt axle in 1992…on a 40 roller with a hardtop…for $400!

It was not in a field, but in a carport of an apartment complex that the guy had moved out of, and he was under the gun from management to get it out (which is why he offered it to me for $400)

Funny enough Hendog stopped by my shop on the way to GSMTR. We spent the better part of a day trying to cobble this 40 together that hadn’t been on the road in at least a decade. He showed up with a broken t-case, no drive shaft, no windshield or hood, no seats, running on 5 cylinders, vacuum leaks every where, 4 different size tires and rims… it was a mad dash rummaging through my shop to find all the necessary parts to make it serviceable. Some how we were able to cobble it together just as the sun was setting.

Have to admit it was the most fun I’ve had wrenching on a Cruiser in a LONG time! Reminded me of my college days when I first got into Cruisers . My buddies and I were all broke and our Cruisers were mostly held together by duck tape, zip ties, baling wire, etc. but we didn’t care. We just wanted to get out on the trails and have adventures. I miss those days!

@HENDOG is the OG for sure, he’s still keeping the old days alive! Look close and you’ll see a 25 hood I got from CruiserNerd probably 2 decades ago now riding on Hendogs 40.

Gotta say the ole 1F with Weber and header hauls especially when you’re missing about a 1,000lbs of top, doors, windshield, hood, seats, etc 🤣

Well… had acorns, little PSA here, never loan the @HENDOG your acorns hubcaps. He texted me this morning to let me know he put a minor dent in one of them 🤣

I bought one of my 75s for 500 bucks, solely because it had a pristine floor mat.

I bought one of my 40s for $275 just because it had a dropgate. I took the gate and tire carrier off, put them on my 40, then gave the rest of the truck to a friend.😉

The DOG doesn’t baby his Cruisers that is certain!
You can't buy cool! But you can buy $60 Pink Rubber ducks and give it to a complete stranger!

She gave me a little blue duck for my Jeep!
So I returned the favor!

Epoxied to the hood, of course!

I bought a 45LV and 55 'convertible' out of a junkyard for $300. I wanted the 45LVs tailgate emblem and the 55's lock-out hubs.

Still rocking the 45 emblem on my 80 (no one has ever notice or commented on it), sold the 55 convertible for $300 and crushed the 45LV :( (going to LC hell for that one) I had it for sale on here for $250 forever and no one wanted it as I didn't have a title 🤷‍♂️. Now that LV would fetch $5k in a second, it wasn't in near as bad a shape as some of crap that's on Marketplace for 3 times that now.

I never got a title with my $500, 65 FJ45LPB (next to a crop duster hangar at the Twin Falls, Idaho airport...kinda like a farmers field) , but applied for one and got it in a year or two. Still driving the 45.
