Hi All,

I have an Australian FJ25 with an lengthened chassis. The chassis has been increased by 450mm (18").
Part of the lengthening process must have been to cut the center chassis cross member (torsion tube), to enable clearance for the driveshaft. However the cross member cut and brace looks very homemade.
What I'm chasing is any information/images about this modification. Is this how all the cross members were cut?

Also how were the trays mounted on these?
It looks like someone has welded on assorted bits of angle iron for mounting points. Is this normal?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciate in repairing this old girl.

That is definitely homemade cut. My FJ25’s were are complete tubes like a fj40 in the rear.

Very common on early cruisers in australia to have lengthened chassis. Owner modified or company’s did them to fit bigger trays. Here is a 66 I imported a few years ago with a 9ft tray!!
