Today I got rear ended by a full size ford truck at approx 35 mph. I'm sure the damage will be costly but we are safe but a little sore. Thank god for the spare tire on the back. I think it absorbed most of the impact.

Glad you are OK.

I got rear ended June of '07 while sitting at a red light.
Ford Ranger had been following me closely for two miles, then he decided to not stop and run into me at 30+.

He was yakking on the cell phone and claimed to me and the police he had not seen the big old FJ or the red light.

I had $5K in damage.
Rear door replaced, side body work, new bumper, and a few more items.

I hardly felt it though, it was more like a tap.
I drove home just fine, his rig was folded up like an accordion up front.

I have pics online, but I am not sure what folder they are in.
My rig spent a month in the shop waiting on parts from Japan.

No frame damage, just the stuff he ran into.
If it had not been an FJ I was in, I am sure I would have got hurt. and the rig would have been a total loss.
FJs are tough.

ouch -Glad everyone is ok.

Looks like Ford loses to Toyota when dumb drivers run into the back of vehicles.

I had a dumbazz run into the back of my old 90 Toyota 4x4 Truck. He was doing about 35 to 40, failed to stop, and he had no insurance, totaled his Ford Escort. I was hoping he would have gone to jail for no insurance, and discrepancies on title. I did get 400.00 for the rear bumper that collected. All he did was bend one corner of the bumper. Never did fix that though.

I think that new Kaymar rear bumper would look great back there

Glad you are OK maybe....

..........you can get the exhaust upgraded to TRD cat back. I am sure that the insurance folks will be happy to throw in a few extras to compensate you for the value lost on your FJ for future trade-in because the vehicle has had a major hit and repair.
I know how much you love your FJ and probably do not intend to trade it but they don't know that....gm

22 days later...Just got my FJ back from the shop. Upgraded the back bumper to the All Pro high clearance bumper. Had them paint the front silver plastic pieces black also. Looks good and I'm very happy. Total repair minus the upgrades was $6,970.00. I can see the exhaust system now tho:rolleyes:

Did you have to pay for the bumper? I didnt think it would be more than stock plastics, styrofoam and sheetmetal?

Thank god everyone is ok.
