1] How hard is it to convert an FJ-80's semi-floater to a full-floater? What are the parts needed? If this has been done before, can you kindly show me a website where I can read about it? Or something similar?

2] I have a good idea on how to convert the rear drum brakes to discs (thanks to the tech section of ih8mud!). The question is, would the front disc brakes and calipers from an FZJ-80 fit the rear and front axles (yup, upgrade the front as well) ???

Thanks in advance!

I don;'t think you can convert the SF to a FF at least not without more work than its worth, but you can swap a FF inplace of the SF, along with changing some other bits

I have a related question, hopefully this isn't considered a hijack-- some people have been placing locking hubs on the front. Can those same hubs be placed on the rear? Anyone tried it? Any spacers or other considerations?

Yup, it's a thread hijack ! :D

But to answer your question, a member of ih8mud (Dave a.k.a. Beanz2) has done so in his FJ-40. It's for towing purposes, he said.

pretty common mod on other rigs with FF, don't see it much on Cruiser or any sort very often for some reason, actaully I heard the reason before.....just don't remember ;)

Don't think a set of Aisin will bolt right up however on a Cruiser FF, without some work

I had the same question a wile back, the aisins will bolt up to the rear hubs of a FF, it would be trick for towing or for getting out with drive line damage, used aisin hubs are actualy cheaper than new hub caps for my LX, and if I had hubs would not need the new caps but you need custom splined-on-both-ends axle shafts, the OEM shafts will not work. lots of money for a small possible benefit.

There was a kit Warn useto sell to make the rear SF axle of a 40/60 into a FF, also had disc brake brackets, etc...and you could use a warn hub back there too. I don't believe they make that anymore, just a passing fad I guess.

The only one I know with rear hubs on a 80 is Christo on his buggy/Shortbus. He has custom axle shafts and hubs back there...not totally sure why he did it, but looks cool.

Cheaper to get the two shafts made, than buy the one side (long splined side) from Toyota. I broke the short side and had to replace the long side since the splines were twisted and I trashed it getting the axle shaft out.

The rear FFA wheel bearing spindles are an integral part of the axle housing, not bolted on like the fronts. You would need a complete axle assembly to do it with factory parts.

I know its a long way's away from you But There was a guy in Boston Mass. I think that had a rear axle for sale, Dont know if its still available but its a dirrect bolt in I would imagine?!?

Good luck
